Sunday is the 7th annual “Oh Christmas Tree” race event at Harmonie State Park at 1:00 PM. Participants can choose between a 12K course, and a 5K out-and-back route. Unlike previous years, the 5K will feature a flatter course without the hill to the turnaround. Everyone who crosses the finish line will receive a medal inspired by Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes and a cake itself. Registration fees are $45, with discounts available for students, veterans, and active military. Early shirt and bib pickup is this evening from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Core Chiropractic in Evansville. Awards will be given to the top two overall male and female finishers for both the 12K and 5K. Partial proceeds from the race will benefit the Harmonie State Park Children's Summer Program.
Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Girls Basketball lost at Mater Dei, 43-37. The Vikings are 7-3 overall and their next game is tomorrow afternoon at home with Gibson Southern. The JV game is at 12:00 PM and the Varsity game is at 1:30 PM on Saturday.
Coming up this evening in local high school sports, North Posey Boys Basketball travels to Mater Dei. The JV game starts at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game is set for 7:00 PM. Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball also has a road game tonight at Wood Memorial. The JV game begins at 6:00 PM with the Varsity game at 7:30 PM. The Varsity game can be found on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. The Wildcats look to get back to .500 as they are 2-3.
In local college sports from Thursday night, USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball began conference action at home vs Arkansas Little Rock. The first game of the evening saw the USI Women’s team pick up a victory, 57-40. Ali Saunders scored 15 points, Channah Gannon added 11 points off the bench, and Sophia Loden had 10 points and 8 rebounds as well. USI Women’s Basketball improves to 7-2 on the season and 1-0 in the OVC.
USI Men’s Basketball lost to Arkansas Little Rock, 77-62. USI led by two at halftime but got outscored 43-26 in the second half. Ismail Habib scored 21 points and Cardell Bailey came off the bench and added 18 points. The Screaming Eagles have lost 3-straight games and are 3-8 on the year and 0-1 in the OVC.
Both USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball play again at home tomorrow with Morehead State in town. The Women’s game is at 1:00 PM and the Men’s game follows at 3:30 PM.
From the NBA last night, the Indiana Pacers lost at home to the New York Knicks, 114-113. Jalen Brunson hit a 3-point shot with 5 seconds left to give the Knicks the win. Andrew Nembhard scored 31 points in a losing effort for Indiana and Pascal Siakam had 26 points. The Pacers’ losing streak is now at 3 games and they have a 6-21 record. The Pacers play at the New Orleans Pelicans tomorrow at 6:00 PM.
