Postseason play continues tonight for High School Girls Basketball with the semi-final round of sectionals. North Posey Girls Basketball plays Perry Central at 5:30 PM in the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Tell City High School. The Vikings beat Tell City on Tuesday, 53-26 to advance past the first round. Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball takes on Memorial this evening at 5:30 PM in a semi-final game of the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Evansville Central High School. The Wildcats got a win on Tuesday vs Bosse, 44-27. Mt. Vernon is 8-16 and Memorial is 4-18. You can hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.
The Posey County Health Department, along with local fire departments, will be hosting a free CPR training class tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM. The class is an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR course and will be offered at two locations: the Black Township Fire and Rescue Department on Industrial Road in Mount Vernon, and the Wadesville Fire Department on Princeton Street. Organizers say the training is open to all Posey County residents and could truly save a life. Each year, more than 350,000 people in the United States suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, and without immediate help, survival rates remain very low. Tomorrow afternoon at Harmonie State Park there is the Birds and Beans event. The Birds portion, Falconry Frenzy, runs from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM and gives you a chance to meet the birds and their handlers. The Beans portion is a chili cook-off, with tasting from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. There is no gate fee for these events. For more information, contact the park office at 812-682-4821, extension 2.
Also tomorrow night, New Life Rescue and Adoption is hosting its annual Rescue Roundup Auction & Dinner at the Posey County Community Center. This event is for those 21 and over. Doors open at 5:00 PM, with dinner served at 6:00 PM. Dinner will be provided by Hawg-N-Sauce. While online ticket sales have closed, tickets will still be available at the door on Saturday for $45. Only 50 tickets will be sold at the door.
The Metropolitan School District of Mount Vernon wants to remind the public that families can still apply for free and reduced meals. They say if you or your family has experienced a change in financial situation, you are encouraged to apply. Applications can be picked up in person or completed online. High School Wrestling Regionals are tomorrow at Castle High School and both North Posey and Mt. Vernon have a handful of wrestlers competing. For Mt. Vernon, Maddex Salee at 132 pounds, Logan Mitchell at 150 pounds, Braxton Whitfield at 165 pounds, Ira Muller at 175 pounds, Eastin Hall at 190 pounds, and Bryce Bourne at 285 pounds. For North Posey there is Parker Wehmer at 126 pounds, Aslan Templeton at 138 pounds, Adam Gray at 144 pounds, Sam Mort at 150 pounds, Cody Fits at 165 pounds, and Tyson Barrow at 175 pounds as he was the sectional champion in his weight class. Tomorrow’s Wrestling Regionals begin at 9:00 AM at Castle High School.
In local high school sports from Thursday night…North Posey Boys Basketball won at home against Pike Central, 50-46. The Vikings end a 4-game losing streak and improve to 4-12 overall.
Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball had their 7-game winning streak end with a 77-40 loss at Princeton. The Wildcats are 11-6 on the year.
Last night in local college basketball…both USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball played a conference game at UT-Martin. In the first game of the night, USI Women’s Basketball lost, 66-58. Ali Saunders scored 20 points in the loss. The Screaming Eagles have lost 3 of their last 4 games. They are 15-7 and 9-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
USI Men’s Basketball also got beat at UT-Martin, 76-54. The Screaming Eagles have lost 3-straight games and are 5-18 and 2-11 in the OVC.
Both USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball play at Southeast Missouri State tomorrow afternoon.
Evansville Women’s Basketball picked up a road win last night as they crushed Valparaiso, 83-59. Camryn Runner had a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists. Sydney Huber also chipped in with 14 points. UE was 14-for-29 from 3PT range. The Purple Aces improve to 6-17 and 4-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Coming up this evening in local college basketball, Evansville Men’s Basketball has a road game at Valparaiso at 7:00 PM. The Purple Aces are looking to end a 5-game losing streak as they are 5-18 and 1-11 in the MVC.
From the NBA tonight, the Indiana Pacers start a 6-game road trip in Milwaukee vs the Bucks at 7:00 PM. The Pacers are trying to avoid a 3rd-straight loss as they are 13-38 on the season. Yesterday right before the trade deadline, the Pacers made a trade for their center of the future. Indiana received 7-foot center, Ivica Zubac from the Los Angeles Clippers. In exchange, the Pacers sent Bennedict Mathurin, Isaiah Jackson, and three draft picks to the Clippers. Zubac is 28 years old and is averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds per-game this year with the Clippers.
