Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Softball lost 1-0 against Memorial in the Class 3A Sectional 32 Championship game at the University of Evansville. The Vikings Softball season ends with an 18-7 record.
Tonight, North Posey Baseball continues postseason play in the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Tell City. The Vikings play Forest Park at 5:00 PM in the semifinals and you can hear the game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Posey County residents are now eligible to receive disaster loans after severe storms and tornadoes hit the Tri-State. Homeowners in the county with storm damage are eligible to apply. Relief includes economic injury disaster loans, and home disaster loans. Indiana Governor Mike Braun signed two major freedom and opportunity public safety bills this week. He signed Senate Enrolled Act 324, which increases the penalty levels for crimes related to fentanyl and domestic violence. The governor stated that Hoosier safety is a top priority. Braun said, "Criminals should know there will be consequences for their actions. This law raises the bar and thus increases the protection for Hoosiers." He also signed House Enrolled Act 1014, which he says contains several public safety provisions and other common-sense solutions.
The Evansville Public Library teamed up with the University of Evansville Purple Aces to help kick off its summer reading program. Members of the UE Women’s Soccer Team stopped by Mccollough Library yesterday to read with kids. The Purple Aces also stuck around to answer questions and sign autographs. It’s all part of the ‘ace the summer’ event put on by the library. Those wanting to register for the program can do so any time through July 31st.
Last night, in the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers got beat in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals Series in New York vs the Knicks, 111-94. Bennedict Mathurin scored 23 points off the bench to lead the Pacers. Indiana still leads the best-of-seven series, 3-2 and will have another chance to advance to the NBA Finals tomorrow night with a win in Game 6 in Indianapolis.
From Major League Baseball on Thursday…the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds all had the day off.
This evening, the St. Louis Cardinals start a 3-game series at the Texas Rangers at 7:05 PM. The Cardinals are 32-24 on the year.
The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds begin a 3-game set in Chicago at 1:20 PM. The Cubs are 35-21 and the Reds are 28-29.
