Yesterday, the Mt. Vernon Police Department sent a notice to the public on Facebook that last Friday, September 6th, Mt. Vernon City Officers were notified of a possible threat that posed danger during the Mt. Vernon High School Football game. Officers immediately detained the male in question and contacted the juvenile’s parents. The juvenile’s vehicle and residence were searched to ensure the safety of all. Officers did not locate a firearm, and the juvenile denied having ever made such verbal statements. Mt. Vernon Police Department officials say there have been multiple students and parents who have received false information that a firearm was indeed located by Officers and have showed concerns. The Police Department wanted to clarify that a firearm was not found by Officers and there was not any evidence to support verbal threats made towards Mt. Vernon High School.
In Evansville, Police are addressing recent social media threats that have been made towards schools around the nation. EPD Officials say they, along with all local school entities and other law enforcement agencies, are aware of the recent threats towards schools that have been circulating online. The Evansville Police Department says that while the threats are vague and trending across the country on social media, they are taking all necessary precautions. EPD says they have increased its police presence both in and around schools. Parents are being asked to do their part and talk to their kids about the importance of social media responsibility and accountability.
The Mt. Vernon Fire Department says that on Thursday, September 26th at 5:30 PM they will be dedicating their new fire truck at the Mt. Vernon Fire Station. Their new engine is a new Ford F550 with a custom utility bed that was bult by Gerry’s Automotive here in Posey County. The new truck will be replacing a 1989 American LaFrance engine. The new engine will be dedicated to former Fire Chief, Bill Booth.
Mt. Vernon River Days gets underway today at 11:00 AM with the opening ceremony. There is a long list of events throughout the day, leading up to Fireworks at 9:00 PM tonight to finish off the evening. Saturday’s events will get underway at 8:00 AM with the 5K Run and events continue throughout the day all the way until 8:00 PM. For a full list of events, you can visit the Mt. In case of inclement weather and there are postponements or cancellations of any events, organizers say they will be announced over the sound system at River Days and posted on their Facebook page.

Tonight is Week 4 of the High School Football season across the tri-state area. In Posey County, the Mt. Vernon Wildcats welcome the Washington Hatches at 6:30 PM. The Wildcats are 2-1 on the year and the Hatchets are 3-0. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the radio broadcast on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Their pregame show begins at 6:15 PM.
The North Posey Vikings will be on the road to battle the Tell City Marksmen this evening at 7:00 PM. Both teams are a perfect 3-0 on the season. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will bring you all on the action on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Their pregame show starts at 6:45 PM.

Earlier in the week, the updated Indiana Football Coaches Association rankings were released, and several tri-state teams are receiving recognition. The North Posey Vikings are ranked 3rd in Class 2A. In Class 5A, Castle is 10th. In Class 4A, Reitz is ranked 3rd. There are numerous tri-state teams ranked in Class 3A with Memorial at the top ranked 1st, Gibson Southern is 2nd, Heritage Hills 3rd, and Southridge is 15th.
Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Volleyball lost in 5-sets at Memorial. North Posey lost the 5th set, 15-12. The Vikings fall to 10-5 on the season. North Posey Boys Soccer took care of Pike Central on the road, 4-1. The Vikings now have a record of 3-5.
Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer lost a tough match at home to Gibson Southern, 1-0. The Wildcats are now 3-6 on the year.
The St. Louis Cardinals won the series finale at home against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, 6-1. The Cardinals took 2-of-3 in the series. St. Louis improves to 74-72 overall and heads to Toronto tonight to start a 3-game weekend series with the Blue Jays at 6:07 PM. The Reds drop to 71-77 and are in Minnesota this evening to begin a 3-game weekend set against the Twins at 7:10 PM.
The Chicago Cubs enjoyed Thursday off after taking 2-of-3 against the Dodgers in Los Angeles earlier this week. The Cubs sit at 75-71 on the year and open up a 3-game series in Colorado with the Rockies tonight at 7:40 PM.
