A traffic alert for Posey County drivers this week. Crews will be replacing pipes on State Road 66. Work will stretch from Juanita Avenue in Blairsville all the way past University Parkway to State Road 65. This will more than likely impact drivers in the Parkers Settlement area. The official detour for this project is State Road 65 to State Road 68 to State Road 165. Officials say local traffic will have access during the closure. Work is expected to start today and last a week.
This past Friday morning there was a report of a crash in Posey County. The report said a truck had flipped on Copperline Road, just west of Marx Road. Dispatchers said that around 7:15 AM on Friday is when fire and EMS were called to the scene. Photos from a witness show a truck flipped in a ditch. Officials say nobody was hurt in the accident.
Coming up tomorrow is the 2025 National Sheriff Night Out Of Posey County in the Cynthiana Town Park from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. All of Posey County and the surrounding community is invited. This is a chance to come out and show the Posey County Sheriff’s Department how much you appreciate them and thank them for their service to the community. There will be burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and fresh Watermelon. Both Crane Credit Union and First Bank will be there once again with their tables and games. Kids are encouraged to bring their swimsuits as there will be a water slide. Adults are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
The MSD of Mt. Vernon is encouraging parents of students in grades 1-12 to enter their Mt. Vernon student in the Give4Good Innovative Scholarship Program for a chance to win a $50,000 scholarship. How it works is, each week, 4 Good Community will deliver enough supplies to your school for each participating student to receive one item. The challenge is to make a measurable social impact with one random product you receive. You will log the weekly donations in the Give 4 Good logbook, given to each participating student. This scholarship will run from the beginning of the school year to the last week of school. At the end of the school year, students will write a summary about their experience and what they are taking away from the program that will be applicable to their future. In Major League Baseball from Sunday…the St. Louis Cardinals lost the series finale in San Diego vs the Padres, 7-3. San Diego took 2-of-3 in the series. The Cardinals drop to a game below .500 at 56-57. They continue their west coast road trip with a 3-game series in Los Angeles vs the Dodgers tonight at 9:10 PM.
The Chicago Cubs took care of the Baltimore Orioles at home, 5-3. Justin Turner cranked a walk-off two-run homerun in the 9th inning as the Cubs won 2-of-3 in the series, Chicago moves to 65-46 overall. They are two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central. The Cubs begin a 3-game set at home with the Cincinnati Reds this evening at 7:05 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds fell to the Atlanta Braves, 4-2. The Reds lost 2-of-3 in the series and are 58-54 on the year. They are four games back of the Padres for the final wild card spot in the National League. Cincinnati is in Chicago tonight to play the Cubs in a 3-game series at 7:05 PM.
