Posey County Solid Waste District says the next Tox-away Day is this Thursday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon Recycle Center on Lower New Harmony Road. They say after Thursday, there will be a 2-month winter break for the hazardous waste disposal.
The Town of Poseyville posted on Facebook that Posey County Yard Waste will be closed for the winter. December 13th will be the last day for this year. They re-open on March 7th.
Officials with Indiana State Police say throughout the holiday season, they will be increasing patrols, along with other local departments. Sgt. Todd Ringle says they will be monitoring higher traffic roads like Interstate 69 and Highway 41, in an effort to keep people safe during the holidays. Last year ISP officers in the area reported over 2400 crashes, 541 injuries, and 11 deaths. Officials say there are many ways to keep yourself safe, like letting someone take over driving if you start to get tired. Officials also highlighted the dangers of drunk driving. They say if you suspect you are behind a drunk driver, call 911 to report it and to not pass them. ISP says they also want people to remember to put their phones down, as it is the number one distraction on the roadways.
Evansville Animal Care & Control put out a call for fluffy coverings on Facebook. They say blankets, sheets and bath towels can keep shelter animals stay warm during the current frigid temperatures. They say you can drop them off anytime between 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday.
Coming up tonight here on Posey County Radio at 5:30 PM, you can hear the Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball Coaches Show on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Allen Buck is the host of the show. The Wildcats have played one game and that was last Wednesday when they lost at home vs Vincennes. Mt. Vernon plays at North Posey this Friday.
The only local high school sports event this evening is the North Posey Girls Swim Team competing in a three-team meet at Heritage Hills at 5:30 PM. The third team is Pike Central.
On Sunday in local college sports…USI Women’s Basketball lost at Northern Kentucky in overtime, 77-71. Two Screaming Eagles had a double-double in the loss. Chloe Gannon had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Sophia Loden added 15 points and 13 rebounds. USI Women’s Basketball falls to 4-2 on the season. They play again on Saturday at East Tennessee State University.
Evansville Women’s Basketball picked up a victory yesterday at home vs Northern Illinois, 65-52. Logan Luebbers Palmer led UE in scoring with 19 points and Camryn Runner chipped in with 10 points. The Purple Aces run their record to 2-5 and they play again on Wednesday at Purdue.
In the NFL on Sunday, it was Week 13 of the regular season…and the Indianapolis Colts lost a close game at home with the Houston Texans, 20-16. Quarterback Daniel Jones was 14-for-27 passing for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running Back Jonathan Taylor added 85 yards on the ground on 21 carries. The Colts have lost back-to-back games for the first time this year as their record falls to 8-4. They are now tied for first place in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis plays at Jacksonville this Sunday.
The Tennessee Titans fell at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday, 25-3. Quarterback Cam Ward was 24-for-38 passing for only 141 yards. The Titans have lost 7-straight games and are 1-11 on the year. Tennessee is at Cleveland on Sunday.
From the NBA tonight…the Indiana Pacers look for their first winning streak of the season as they welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers at 6:00 PM. The Pacers won back-to-back games at home over the weekend against Washington on Friday and Chicago on Saturday. Indiana is 4-16.
