Coming up this Friday and Saturday in Mt. Vernon is Christmas on Main Street. On Friday, the parade starts at 7:00 PM and the tree lighting follows immediately after at City Hall. On Saturday, there are visits with Santa from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and the Ice Rink is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There are also many other fun activities throughout the day on Saturday.

 

This past Friday, The Indiana House passed a bill to redraw the state’s congressional districts. The bill passed 57 to 41. Right now, there are nine congressional districts in Indiana, with seven represented by Republican lawmakers and two by Democrats. The bill will now head to the Indiana Senate.

 

Yesterday, the bracket was announced for the 2025-26 College Football Playoffs and a day after knocking off Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game, the Indiana Hoosiers are the #1 seed in the playoffs. It’s the first time in program history that IU Football is the #1 ranked team in College Football. Saturday’s win over Ohio State was the Hoosiers’ first victory against the Buckeyes since 1988 and their first conference title since 1967. They get a first-round bye in the playoffs and play in the Rose Bowl on January 1st. Indiana Football plays the winner of Oklahoma vs Alabama and that game is on December 19th.

 

Last Friday night, Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball won the Posey County battle as they went to North Posey and won, 49-25. The Wildcats improved to 1-1 and they play at Gibson Southern on Thursday, while the Vikings fell to 0-3 and travel to Heritage Hills on Friday.

Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball won at home on Saturday against Pike Central, 39-38. The Lady Wildcats improve to 4-5 on the year and their next game is tomorrow night at Princeton.

North Posey Girls Basketball did not have a game over the weekend. Their record is 6-1 and they have a home game tomorrow night vs Southridge.

 

Yesterday, in local college sports…USI Men’s Basketball lost at Indiana State, 77-55. Kaden Brown and Cardell Bailey each scored 13 points in the loss. The Screaming Eagles are 3-7 on the season. USI plays again a week from today on December 15th at home against East-West.

Evansville Women’s Basketball play at Saint Louis last night and got beat, 72-55. Logan Luebbers Palmer scored 13 points, and Camryn Runner had 10 points for UE. They are now 2-7 and play at home on Sunday as they take on Austin Peay.

Last Saturday, Evansville Men’s Basketball played at Western Kentucky and lost 80-79. Leif Moeller led the Aces in scoring with 21 points. Connor Turnbull had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 blocked shots for UE. Alex Hemenway also added 14 points. The Purple Aces sit at 4-6 and have one non-conference game left at Notre Dame this Saturday.

USI Women’s Basketball earned a victory on Saturday at East Tennessee State, 56-41. USI trailed by five at halftime, but outscored East Tennessee State 21-5 in the third quarter to claim control of the game. Chloe Gannon led USI in scoring with 22 points. Sophia Loden collected a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. USI Women’s Basketball has a record of 5-2 and plays on Sunday at home vs Middle Tennessee State.

 

In the NFL on Sunday, it was Week 14 of the regular season…and the Indianapolis Colts dropped their third-straight game in Jacksonville to the Jaguars, 36-19. Colts Quarterback, Daniel Jones left the game in the first half with an Achillies injury and Riley Leonard finished the game at Quarterback. The Jaguars have now won 11-straight games in Jacksonville vs the Colts. With the win, the Jaguars are now in first place in the AFC South with a 9-4 record and the Colts drop to second place at 8-5. Indianapolis plays at the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.

In Green Bay, the Packers defeated their rival in the Chicago Bears, 28-21. Packers Quarterback, Jordan Love threw 3 touchdown passes and was 17-for-25 for 234 yards. Green Bay improves to 9-3-1 overall and Chicago falls to 9-4 on the year. The Packers now have a half game lead on the Bears for first place in the NFC North. Green Bay plays on Sunday at the Denver Broncos and Chicago is home taking on the Cleveland Browns.

The Tennessee Titans ended a 7-game losing streak with a 31-29 win in Cleveland vs the Browns. Titans Running Back, Tony Pollard carried the ball 25 times for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tennessee improves to 2-11. They are on the road again this Sunday at the San Francisco 49ers.

 

From the NBA tonight…the Indiana Pacers are at home battling the Sacramento Kings at 6:00 PM. The Pacers are going for back-to-back wins after a victory in Chicago on Friday. Indiana is 5-18 on the season.
