Over the weekend, the IHSAA Wrestling Semi-State was held at Ford Center in downtown Evansville. It was an all-day event on Saturday and both North Posey and Mt. Vernon Wrestling had several wrestlers competing. The highlight of the day was North Posey’s Tyson Barrow punching his ticket to the State Finals at 175 pounds. Barrow is a 2-time State qualifier. He is in action on Friday in the State Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis. Vikings Junior, Aslan Templeton in the 138-pound weight class had his season come to an end. It was his second trip to the Semi-State. Freshman Parker Wehmer lost in the ticket round of Semi-State in the 126-pound weight class, capping off a tremendous first season.
For Mt. Vernon Wrestling, they did not have any of their five wrestlers in Semi-State advance to the State Finals. It was a tremendous season for Maddex Salee at 132 pounds, Logan Mitchell at 150 pounds, Braxton Whitfield at 165 pounds, Eastin Hall at 190 pounds, and Bryce Bourne at 285 pounds.
Mt. Vernon Girls Swimming saw Peyton McDaniel perform well at the State Finals this past weekend in Indianapolis. Peyton finished in 3rd place at State in the 50 Freestyle and in 9th place in the 100 Butterfly.
Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball lost their only game this past weekend as they dropped a close one at Boonville, 54-51. The Wildcats have lost 3-straight games and are 11-8 on the season. Their next game is tomorrow night at home vs Mater Dei.
North Posey Boys Basketball had 2 games over the weekend, and they split the two games. The Viking got beat on Friday at home by Southridge, 47-34 and then defeated Perry Central on the road on Saturday, 51-34. North Posey has won 3 of their last 4 games as they are 6-13 overall. They are at home with Barr-Reeve on Friday.
In Men’s College Basketball yesterday, the Indiana Hoosiers lost at #8 Illinois, 71-51. IU was held to just 20 points in the second half. Lamar Wilkerson scored 21 points for the Hoosiers in the loss. David Mirkovic (DAH-VID MEER-KO-VITCH) paced the Illini with 25 points. Indiana falls to 17-9 and 8-7 in the Big 10. Illinois improves to 21-5 and 12-3 in the conference.
