The Mount Vernon Wildcats boys swim team had a productive showing at Sectionals over the weekend. They are sending three events to the State Finals in Indianapolis this Friday. Leading the charge is standout swimmer Ozzy Jankowski, who qualified in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Jankowski delivered a record-breaking performance, setting two new Sectional records. His 100-butterfly time dropped seven-tenths of a second from Thursday night’s prelims, while his 100 backstroke shattered a 26-year-old record previously held by Olympian Bryce Hunt. Both swims also replace Jankowski’s own school records. The times earned him All-American consideration honors, and his 100-butterfly performance qualifies him for the Winter Junior National Swim Meet.

The Wildcats will also advance in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Jankowski teamed up with Camas O’Daniel, CJ Gentry, and Clayton Green to secure the win in dramatic fashion. Jankowski powered to an early lead, O’Daniel maintained the pace, Gentry made a decisive move to put the Wildcats ahead, and Green held off a late challenge from Evansville Central to anchor the victory. Relay alternates include Ryan McCollum, Sam Reinitz, and Johnny Bohleber. The Wildcats as a team finished fourth overall in the Sectional.
