After being closed all last week due to winter weather, MSD of Mt. Vernon and MSD of North Posey Schools are back in session today with a 2-hour delay. EVSC Schools are closed for this Monday and will conduct synchronous learning as teachers will use live virtual instruction.
High School Wrestling Sectionals took place this past Saturday at Evansville Central High School. Mt. Vernon finished in 4th place as a team and North Posey finished in 6th. Both the Wildcats and Vikings had numerous wrestlers advance to Regionals. For Mt. Vernon, Maddex Salee at 132 pounds, Logan Mitchell at 150 pounds, Braxton Whitfield at 165 pounds, Ira Muller at 175 pounds, Eastin Hall at 190 pounds, and Bryce Bourne at 285 pounds. Moving on for North Posey is Parker Wehmer at 126 pounds, Aslan Templeton at 138 pounds, Adam Gray at 144 pounds, Sam Mort at 150 pounds, Cody Fits at 165 pounds, and Tyson Barrow at 175 pounds as he was the sectional champion in his weight class. Regionals are this Saturday at Castle High School.
Also, this past Saturday, North Posey Boys Basketball played at Princeton and lost, 77-39. The Vikings have lost 3-straight games and are 3-11 on the season. Their next game is on Wednesday at Day School.
Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball hasn’t played since January 23rd, but they return to action this evening at Tell City. The JV game is at 6:00 PM and the Varsity game is at 7:30 PM. The Wildcats have won 6-straight games and are 10-5 overall. You can listen to tonight’s varsity game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Tomorrow evening is the first night of the postseason tournament for High School Girls Basketball. The North Posey Vikings play their first-round sectional game tomorrow night at 6:30 PM in the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Tell City High School. Their opponent is Tell City. The Vikings ended their regular season on a 3-game losing streak as they are 12-11.
Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball also plays their first-round sectional game tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Evansville Central High School. They take on Bosse. The Wildcats finished their regular season by losing the final 6 games and are 7-16.
Yesterday in local college sports, Evansville Women’s Basketball lost at home to Indiana State, 78-75. BreAunna Ward had 22 points and 8 rebounds and Camryn Runner added 19 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. The Purple Aces are 5-17 on the year and 3-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
From Men’s College Basketball on Sunday, #12 Purdue ended a 3-game losing streak as they blitzed Maryland on the road, 93-63. Fletcher Loyer scorched the nets for 29 points to lead the Boilermakers. Purdue is 18-4 and 8-3 in the Big 10.
#9 Illinois won at #5 Nebraska, 78-69 yesterday. Keaton Wagler scored a game-high 28 points for the Fighting Illini. They improve to 19-3 and 10-1 in the Big 10.
In the NBA tonight, the Indiana Pacers are at home vs the Houston Rockets at 6:00 PM. The Pacers are going for their 3rd-straight win as they are 13-36 on the season.
