Law enforcement officials continue to investigate a deadly officer-involved shooting in Mount Vernon. Indiana State Police have identified the man who was killed as 40-year-old Blake Fleming. According to State Police Sergeant Todd Ringle, the shooting happened around 12:20 Thursday afternoon during a traffic stop near Copperline Road and State Road 69. Two Posey County Sheriff’s deputies were searching for a man with two active felony warrants who was believed to be a passenger in a tractor-trailer. Sgt. Ringle says an Indiana State Police trooper spotted the semi on State Road 69 and alerted deputies, who then conducted the traffic stop. Authorities say the driver of the semi cooperated and exited the vehicle, but Fleming got out of the truck holding a gun to his own head. During that encounter, both deputies fired their weapons. Fleming was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured. Sgt. Ringle says both deputies were wearing body cameras at the time, and Indiana State Police are handling the investigation.
