Indiana State Museum officials say there will be free admission to the historic sites at Angel Mounds, New Harmony, and Vincennes today, in honor of MLK Day. Director of Communication, Carla Knapp says this will be a great opportunity for families to spend the day exploring together throughout southwest Indiana. Officials say the sites will be open to honor King’s life and legacy. You can find more information and hours for each of these historic sites by visiting indianamuseum.org.
The University of Southern Indiana Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program has something in store for expectant mothers. The university says they will be offering non-diagnostic ultrasounds to women in their second or third trimester on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons through April 28th, 2026. Over the weekend, North Posey and Mt. Vernon Girls Wrestling each had two wrestlers competing in the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. North Posey’s Kenna Kleinschmidt finished in 4th place at 110 pounds and Ady Gamblin finished in 5th place at 125 pounds. Mt. Vernon’s Maddy McCarty came in 5th place at 140 pounds and Ambryn Siddons lost in the first round at 145 pounds.
In local high school basketball this past weekend, Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball won their game on Friday at Southridge, 54-41. The Wildcats have won three-straight games and are now 7-5 overall. This week is a busy week for Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball as they are playing in the Carmi White County Tournament. The Wildcats play Carmi this evening at 7:00 PM. You can listen to the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. They also play on Wednesday against Harrisburg and Friday vs Fairfield.
North Posey Boys Basketball split their two games this past weekend. The Vikings won on Friday at home against Tecumseh, 72-61 and then lost at Forest Park on Saturday, 56-48. The Vikings are 3-9 on the season and their next game is on Friday at home with South Spencer.
Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball had a game on Saturday and lost at home to Fairfield, 43-27. The Wildcats have lost five-straight games and are 7-15 on the year. They have three games left in the regular season and play their next game on Thursday at home vs Forest Park.
North Posey Girls Basketball won their game on Saturday at home as they cruised past Pike Central, 63-19. The Vikings have won four of their last five games and are 12-8 overall. With three games left in their regular season, North Posey Girls Basketball plays tomorrow night at Princeton.
This evening is the College Football National Championship in Miami as the Indiana Hoosiers take on the Miami Hurricanes at 6:30 PM. Hoosiers Football is playing for their first national championship in program history and looks to complete a perfect 16-0 season.
In the NFL yesterday, the Chicago Bears season came to an end in the Divisional Round as they lost at home to the Los Angeles Rams in overtime, 20-17. Bears Quarterback, Caleb Williams went 23-for-42 passing for 257 yards. He threw 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Chicago’s season ends with a 12-7 record.
The NFL Playoffs are now down to four teams as this Sunday in the NFC Championship game it will be the Los Angeles Rams at the Seattle Seahawks and in the AFC Championship game it will be the New England Patriots at the Denver Broncos.
From the NBA tonight, the Indiana Pacers play the second game of a five-game road trip as they are in Philadelphia to play the 76ers at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have a record of 10-33.
