Last night in Game 7 of the NBA Finals the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers, 103-91 to win the NBA Championship. It’s the franchise’s first NBA Championship since moving to Oklahoma City and the Pacers are still without an NBA Championship. Tyrese Haliburton only played 7 minutes in the game as he left with an Achillies injury. Bennedict Mathurin led the Pacers in scoring with 24 points.

 

Over the weekend the High School sports season came to an end with the Baseball State Finals at Victory Field in Indianapolis and the tri-state area had three teams playing for a championship. On Friday night in the Class 3A State Championship game, Jasper lost to Andrean, 4-3 as Jasper finished as Class 3A Runner-Ups with a 28-7 record.

Then on Saturday there were a pair of Evansville schools playing. In the Class 2A State Championship game, Mater Dei fell to Boone Grove 6-1 as Mater Dei finished as Class 2A Runner-Ups with a 23-8 record.

In the night cap on Saturday in the Class 4A State Championship game, North was shutout by Valparaiso 5-0 as the Huskies ended their season as Class 4A Runner-Ups with a 25-9 record.

 

Late last week a man has been arrested for multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect after officials found 5 dead dogs in a foreclosed home. The Posey County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Ryver Barker abandoned the dogs at a foreclosed home he moved out of in the 7000 block of Briar Ridge Road of Wadesville. Deputies say they were overwhelmed by the smell when they entered the home, and they had to use breathing apparatuses to search. They say the dogs had been there since October of 2024. Barker was arrested for 8 counts of animal cruelty and animal neglect. He has since bonded out. Authorities say more arrests are possible as the situation is still under investigation.

 

Some traffic news for when you are traveling through Evansville…The Indiana Department of Transportation says part of The Lloyd Expressway going eastbound will be down to two lanes as construction continues. Officials say as part of The Lloyd4U project, the outside lane going east between Green River Road and I-69 will be closed. They say this is expected to last for the next four months. According to the media release, the lane restriction is for the construction of dual displaced left turns at Burkhardt Road and Cross Point Boulevard. They say two lanes will always remain open for eastbound traffic.

 

From Major League Baseball on Sunday…the St. Louis Cardinals could not complete the 3-game sweep at home of the Cincinnati Reds as the Reds won, 4-1. The Cardinals 5-game winning streak came to an end as they are now 42-36 and the Reds improve to 40-38. St. Louis begins a 4-game set at home vs the Chicago Cubs tonight at 6:45 PM and Cincinnati returns home to start a 3-game series with the New York Yankees at 6:10 PM.

The Chicago Cubs lost the rubber game of their 3-game set at home against the Seattle Mariners, 14-6. The Cubs record is 46-31. They head to St. Louis tonight at 6:45 PM for the 1st of 4 games vs the Cardinals.
