Yesterday, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to open Avery’s Place in Hagemann Park in Mt. Vernon. Avery’s Place is a playground designed to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, can experience the joy of a playground. It’s the first inclusive playground in Posey County. Avery’s Place is named in honor of Avery Beste, a Mt. Vernon teen who lived with a rare genetic disorder called Partial Trisomy 13 until she passed away at the age of 18. Officials say the playground stands as a joyful, living tribute to Avery’s legacy.
