Tomorrow night is Week 1 of the High School Football season. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats start their season at home vs Forest Park. Kickoff Friday evening is 6:30 PM. You will be able to hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com as Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the call once again this season. Last year the Wildcats went 5-5. Forest Park was 6-5 a season ago.
The North Posey Vikings are also home for the season opener tomorrow night at 6:30 PM as they take on Southridge. You can hear the Vikings on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com with Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan. Last Year North Posey had a record of 7-3 and Southridge was 8-3.
Family Matters of Posey County shared on Facebook that today at the New Harmony Food Pantry there will be an extra distribution due to an unexpected donation of food. In addition to the normal distribution, each family will receive an additional large reusable grocery bag filled with food, including canned goods and ground beef. The New Harmony Food Pantry will be open from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM today.
Posey County Council on Aging says they are in need of volunteers who want to help out in the community. Their Meals on the Move program is looking for volunteers three days a week. The volunteers will help with meal prep and distribution. The goal of this program is to deliver home cooked meals to homebound individuals living in Posey County. If you are interested, the number to call is 812-838-4656.
MSD of Mt. Veron is reminding the community that it is not too late to sign your child up for Free + Reduced Meals. You can fill out a form in person or online and turn it in either to your designated school, or the MSDMV building at 1000 West 4th Street. Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Boys Tennis defeated Pike Central at home, 5-0. The Vikings improve to 2-0.
Coming up this evening in local high school sports…North Posey Volleyball takes on Mater Dei at home. The JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is at 7:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Girls Golf has a match at Cambridge at 4:30 PM against Gibson Southern and Mt. Carmel.
Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer is at home taking on Harrison at 5:30 PM.
In local college sports tonight…Evansville Men’s Soccer plays their first match of the year at home vs Bellarmine at 6:30 PM.
Evansville Women’s Soccer heads to Lindenwood at 6:00 PM.
USI Men’s Soccer is at Louisville to start their season at 4:00 PM.
USI Women’s Soccer travels to Robert Morris University at 3:00 PM.
In Major League Baseball from Wednesday…the St. Louis Cardinals could not complete the 3-game sweep in Miami as they lost to the Marlins, 6-2. The Cardinals are 63-65 on the season. They head to Tampa this evening to begin a 3-game series vs the Rays at 6:35 PM.
The Chicago Cubs won their 3rd-straight game vs the Milwaukee Brewers at home, 4-3. The Cubs improve to 73-54. Chicago and Milwaukee wrap up a 5-game series this afternoon at 1:20 PM.
