MSD of Mt. Vernon posted on Facebook that Alaina Allyn from Mt. Vernon High School is a 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient. The scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for 4 years.
American Industrial Group is expanding in Posey County, bringing new high-paying manufacturing jobs to the area. The company plans to invest about 1.25 million dollars in the expansion, which is expected to create 11 new full-time skilled jobs by 2028, paying an average of 42 dollars an hour. The project will also help retain the company’s 30 current Indiana employees. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is supporting the expansion with up to 175,000 dollars in performance-based tax credits, awarded as new jobs are filled.
Posey County Commissioners have voted to extend a moratorium on renewable energy projects for another year. The pause, which applies to solar and wind developments, was first enacted in March of last year as officials work on updating the county’s comprehensive plan and zoning rules. The moratorium is now expected to remain in effect through December of 2026.
Last night in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball won at Bosse, 34-28. Stella Hall led the Wildcats with 14 points. They improve to 5-7 on the season and play again on Saturday afternoon at Washington.
This evening in local high school sports, North Posey Girls Basketball travels to Mater Dei. The JV game begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game starts at 7:00 PM. You can listen to the Varsity game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. The Vikings are 7-2 on the season.
Mt. Vernon Girls Wrestling has a match at home vs Southridge at 5:30 PM.
Mt. Vernon Boys and Girls Swimming have a meet at Castle at 5:30 PM. Boonville is also competing in the swim meet.
Last night in local college sports, Evansville Women’s Basketball lost their conference opening game at Belmont, 77-67. Logan Luebbers Palmer had 18 points for UE and Camryn Runner added 16 points. The Purple Aces are 2-9 on the year and 0-1 in the MVC.
Coming up this evening in local college sports, USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball start conference action at home on campus as they play Arkansas Little Rock. The Women’s game begins at 5:00 PM and the Men’s contest follows around 7:30 PM. USI Women’s Basketball has a record of 6-2 and the Screaming Eagles Men’s Basketball team is 3-7 overall.
From the NBA tonight, the Indiana Pacers are at home taking on the New York Knicks at 6:00 PM. The Pacers are 6-20 on the season.
