CenterPoint Energy officials are encouraging southwestern Indiana electric customers to take advantage of new opportunities to save on their energy bills. In a recent press release, the company is urging customers to enroll in its Smart Cycle program before the 2026 season begins in March. The voluntary program uses participating customers’ smart thermostats to automatically adjust temperatures by up to four degrees during periods of high electricity demand. Company officials say those small adjustments help reduce strain on the electric grid when usage is at its peak, while also giving customers the chance to earn bill credits. Participants maintain full control and can override temperature changes at any time using their thermostat or mobile app. During the 2025 program season, about 8,000 Smart Cycle participants helped reduce peak demand by 11 megawatts across the region. Those customers earned a combined total of roughly $855,500 in bill credits. CenterPoint Energy says enrolling before March ensures customers can begin earning credits when the new program season starts.

Even though the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival wrapped up months ago, its impact is still being felt this winter. One of the major beneficiaries of this year’s half-pot proceeds is the Evansville Police Department Cops Connecting with Kids program. The West Side Nut Club is donating 25,000 dollars to help send Evansville students on the program’s annual Disney trip. Police officials say that amount is enough to sponsor an entire school of students for next year’s visit. And the support doesn’t stop there. The donation to EPD is just a portion of the nearly 500,000 dollars the Nut Club plans to distribute from this year’s festival. About 300,000 dollars in grants will also go to local schools across Evansville. Organizers say the goal is to continue giving back to the community long after the festival lights go out.
