A heat advisory remains in effect through tomorrow for the tri-state area. With the temperatures at dangerous levels the Alexandrian Public Library in Mount Vernon wants to remind the community that they can stop in to cool off and get a drink of water during business hours. They are open from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM Monday though Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday.
The Black Township Fire and Rescue Department responded to a field fire yesterday. According to their report, no injuries were noted. Units, 12 Brush 100 and 12 Tanker 1 responded to take care of the fire.
Saint Francis Xavier in Poseyville is having their annual Chops & Cheers event this Saturday. The event is family friendly and children will be welcome inside. The menu includes pork chops, cheesy potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, roll and drink for $20 for adults. The kids meal option is a hot dog with sides for $10. Dine in and drive through options are available. Dinner will be served at 5:00PM.
Premier Healthcare of New Harmony will be having an early 4th of July celebration this Saturday. Food games and face painting will begin at 6:00PM. There will be live music and fireworks as well. The Fireworks show is set to begin at 8:00PM. This event is open to the public.
The New Harmony Firefly Festival is coming up this weekend. Activities kick off tomorrow at 10AM with tram tours. There will be food trucks on site starting at 5 in the evening. Governor Mike Braun says all 15 of Indiana’s public colleges and universities will freeze in-state undergraduate tuition and fees for the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 school years. It’s the first time since at least 2010 that so many campuses have done so at once. The move follows Braun’s request for a 0% increase, and the state’s Higher Education Commission unanimously backed the plan.
