High school students in the Evansville area will soon have another opportunity to turn creative ideas into real-world solutions and earn college scholarship money along the way. The University of Evansville has announced its 11th annual High School Changemaker Challenge. Students can present an original idea, product, service or program in whatever format best communicates their vision, including art, video, audio or essays. The top four entries will receive scholarships. First place earns a full-tuition scholarship, while second place receives $29,000, third place gets $27,000, and fourth place earns $25,000. The 2027 Changemaker Challenge officially kicks off October 16th at 4:00 PM at Innovation Pointe in downtown Evansville.
Tomorrow night is Week 8 of the High School Football season, and the North Posey Vikings are at the Heritage Hills Patriots at 7:00 PM. The Vikings are 7-0 and ranked 9th in Class 2A. The Patriots are 5-2 on the season. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan have the radio call tomorrow on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Mt. Vernon Football is at home tomorrow evening vs the Washington Hatchets at 6:30 PM. The Wildcats and Hatchets are each 1-6 overall. You can listen to the game on the radio with Chris Cooke and Allen Buck on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.
Coming up tonight in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Volleyball is at home vs North. The JV match starts at 6:00 PM and the Varsity match begins around 7:30 PM.
Mt. Vernon High School is hosting the Boys Soccer Sectional this week and this evening there are a pair of matches involving Posey County teams. Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer takes on Bosse at 5:00 PM. Then at 7:00 PM, North Posey Boys Soccer battles Mater Dei.
In the Major League Baseball Playoffs yesterday, the Chicago White Sox lost Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series at home vs the Cleveland Guardians, 9-3. The White Sox still lead the best-of-five series, 2-1 and have another chance to close out the series with a win today at home in Game 4.
From the NBA, the Indiana Pacers played their first of four preseason games last night and the Pacers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 123-112. Tyrese Haliburton played his first game since getting injured in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. Haliburton scored seven points and dished out six assists in 16 minutes of playing time. The game was played in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State University, which is where Haliburton played his college basketball. Aaron Nesmith led Indiana with 19 points. The Pacers play another exhibition game on Saturday at home vs the Atlanta Hawks.
