MSD of Mt. Vernon has announced that they are having an 8th grade night on Tuesday, March 17th at 6:00 PM in the Mt. Vernon High School Cafeteria. This is a chance to learn more about the opportunities that are available when attending Mt. Vernon High School. There are a wide variety of career pathways and extracurricular activities for every student. They offer a wide range of dual credit and AP courses to help students earn college credits while still in high school. There are also opportunities for students that want hands-on experience to prepare them for real-world success, with career and technical programs. All these opportunities are discussed during the 8th grade night on Tuesday, March 17th at 6:00 PM in the Mt. Vernon High School Cafeteria.
Tonight, Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball has a game at home vs Washington. The JV game begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity game follows at 7:00 PM. Including tonight, the Wildcats only have two games left in the regular season. They are 12-9 on the season. University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball Junior Guard, Amaree Brown has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week. The award is the first of the year for Brown and the third of the season for the Screaming Eagles. He led the Screaming Eagles to a pair of victories last week and averaged 20.0 points per-game in the two games.
USI Women’s and Men’s Basketball are on the road tonight as they play at Morehead State. The Women’s game starts at 4:00 PM and the Men’s game tips off at 6:30 PM. Both USI teams have two remaining games in the regular season, including tonight’s game. USI Women’s Basketball is 19-8 and 13-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They are in third place and game behind Lindenwood for second place. This evening’s opponent, Morehead State, is only a game behind USI in 4th place.
Screaming Eagles Men’s Basketball is 7-21 on the season and 4-14 in the OVC. They have won back-to-back conference games for the first time this year, after winning at Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois last week. USI Men’s Basketball has been eliminated from making the OVC Tournament though.
University of Evansville Freshman, Jelena Savic has been named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced yesterday afternoon. Savic earns the award after matching a career-high with 14 points while grabbing seven rebounds in Saturday's overtime win over Northern Iowa. The Aces completed the regular season sweep over UNI for the first time since 2007-08. Savic has played in all 27 games this season, averaging 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Of MVC freshmen with a minimum of 20 three-pointers attempted this year, Savic ranks first with a. 39.1% mark from deep.
In Men’s College Basketball this evening, the Indiana Hoosiers are at home taking on Northwestern at 6:00 PM. IU is looking to avoid a 3rd-straight loss as they are 17-10 and 8-8 in the Big 10.
The Kentucky Wildcats play at South Carolina at 6:00 PM. UK has lost their last 3 games. The Cats are 17-10 on the year and 8-6 in the SEC.
From the NBA tonight, the Indiana Pacers continue their 4-game homestand as they take on the Philadelphia 76ers at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have lost 3-straight games and are 15-43 overall.
