The United States Postal Service is looking to fill several jobs by holding job fairs across the state of Indiana. Friday, July 25th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, job seekers will have the chance to learn more about immediate openings for rural carrier associates and assistant rural carriers. In the Posey County area, fairs will be held in Mt. Vernon at 308 Walnut Street and in Poseyville at 41 South Locust Street. They say that the pay for these jobs starts at $20.38 per hour.

 

University of Southern Indiana school officials say there will be a free undergraduate application period for students interested in beginning their college journey this fall. According to a press release, undergraduate freshmen and transfer degree-seeking students can enjoy a waived application fee Monday, July 21st through Friday, August 1st with the promo code, APPLYUSI. Officials say prospective undergraduate students should apply via the USI application by midnight Friday, August 1st using the promo code APPLYUSI. In addition to acceptance to the University, applicants will also be considered for merit-based scholarships.

 

This week is the Posey County Fair at 111 Harmony Township Road in New Harmony. The fair runs through Saturday, July 19th. Admission is 8 dollars per person and kids that are 10 years old and younger get in for free. The gate admission includes Free Carnival Rides, Free Kids Zone Activities, and Free Main Arena Events. There will be numerous Food Vendors, plus air-conditioned meals in the Community Center. You can view the schedule of events and more information at poseycountyfair.com.

This past Saturday, the 2025 Posey County Royalty winners were announced.

Posey County Princess --- Sadie Gamache.

Posey County Duchess --- Liberty Buchanan.

Miss Teen Posey County --- Colbie Buchanan.

Miss Posey County --- Jaycee Jarvis.

 

The Major League Baseball Draft concluded yesterday in Atlanta, Georgia and the tri-state area had a pair of pitchers drafted in the 7th round. Memorial High School Graduate Matthew Fisher was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies General Manager is Preston Mattingly, the son of Don Mattingly. Fisher just graduated in May at Memorial and is currently signed to play Baseball at Indiana.

Former Castle star, Cameron Tilly, was selected by the New York Mets. Tilly has been playing for the Auburn Tigers since 2024. In his most recent season, Tilly went 3-3 with a 5.48 ERA.

 

Last night was the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby in Atlanta and the Seattle Mariners Catcher, Cal Raleigh became the first Catcher ever to win the Home Run Derby. Tonight, is the Major League Baseball All-Star game at Truist Park in Atlanta at 7:00 PM. The second half of the season begins for all teams on Friday.
