Family Matters of Posey County is doing a Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway today at Hedges Central Gymnasium. They say to enter through Door #11. Call Family Matters to schedule an appointment. Their number is 812-838-6875.
The Posey County Sheriff’s Office says they are now hiring for Deputy Sheriff. Starting pay is $56,917 with medical, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement and supplemental retirement is available as well. There will also be a take home vehicle for in-county residency. Start by downloading the app “Posey County Sheriff’s Office” from the app store for an application. Once downloaded, go to the “Join our Team” section and begin the process. Applications are also available at the office Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. The deadline for applications is August 21st.
University of Southern Indiana school officials say there is currently a free undergraduate application period for students interested in beginning their college journey this fall. According to a press release, undergraduate freshmen and transfer degree-seeking students can enjoy a waived application fee now through Friday, August 1st with the promo code, APPLYUSI. Officials say prospective undergraduate students should apply via the USI application by midnight Friday, August 1st using the promo code APPLYUSI. In addition to acceptance to the University, applicants will also be considered for merit-based scholarships.
Ellis Park in Henderson is inviting the tri-state area to be a part of their upcoming “Family Fun Day” this Saturday. Organizers say the event will feature a costume contest, games, prizes, cotton candy, photo ops, and Tug-of-War. The first 50 guests will also receive a free T-Shirt. General admission is free and the whole family is invited to attend. Again, the “Family Fun Day” will take place this Saturday, July 26th with a first race post time set for 11:50 AM.
Coming up this Sunday, July 27th is the American Legion Post 278 Military Appreciation Picnic at the Poseyville Community Center. Doors open at 4:00 PM and Dinner will be served at 5:00 PM. There will be a buffet picnic with Fried Chicken, Barbeque Pulled Pork, Cheesy Potato Casserole, Corn, Barbeque Baked Beans, Slaw, and Fried Biscuits. This is open to members and families of the American Legion, Auxiliary, Son’s of the American Legion, and all Prospective Members. In Major League Baseball from Monday…the St. Louis Cardinals snapped a 3-game losing streak as they won the series opener in Colorado against the Rockies, 6-2. The Cardinals improve to 52-49 on the year and continue the 3-game set tonight at 7:40 PM.
The Chicago Cubs lost a series opener at home to the Kansas City Royals, 12-4. The Cubs have lost back-to-back games and sit at 59-41 on the season. Game two of the series is this evening in Chicago at 7:05 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds fell short in a slugfest to start their series in Washington as the Nationals won, 10-8. The Reds are 52-49 overall and play the middle game of a 3-game set in Washington tonight at 5:45 PM.
