The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC), in partnership with the University of Evansville, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for the Innovation Center for Science and Health. The new facility is going to be built at the site of the former Welborn Clinic building in downtown Evansville. Officials say the goal for the new facility is to expand innovative learning opportunities for local high school and college students in science, healthcare and medical fields. The downtown location, adjacent to the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences, offers students access to real-world medical environments and academic collaboration with UE and other local universities, including the University of Southern Indiana and Indiana University. Construction is set to begin immediately, with the facility expected to open in 2026.

 

Tonight is another Poseyville Farmer’s Market from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Poseyville Community Center. It’s Fruits and Veggies for this week. There will be Blueberries, Black Raspberries, Green Onions, Beets, Sweet Potatoes, Jam, Cucumbers, Zucchini, and White Scallop Squash. The Food Truck in attendance this evening is The Cheese Queen.

 

Last night, several Vanderburgh County first responders conducted a mock disaster drill at USI. The training helped give students and agencies a real-world opportunity to certain events.

 

The Posey County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that many people in the area have received phone calls about an arrest warrant. They say that the caller identifies themselves as “Sergeant Allen Middleton.” The Sheriff’s Office says this is not a real call and that they are trying to blatantly misinform citizens for monetary gain. The Sheriff’s Office number is 812-838-1321, so if this is not the number provided, don’t adhere to the call.

 

The Indianapolis Colts will now be owned by the three daughters of Jim Irsay, the team’s late owner and chief executive officer. According to a news release from the team on Monday, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson will serve as co-owners of the team. All three will also serve additional roles. Irsay-Gordan will become the owner and chief executive owner. Foyt will become the owner and executive vice president, and Jackson will become the owner and chief brand officer, as well as the president of the Indianapolis Colts Foundation. This comes after all three served as the team’s vice chair/owner since 2012. The new roles and titles are effective immediately. These new roles will continue the team being one of the few NFL franchises under sole family ownership. Jim Irsay died at the age of 65 back on May 21st.

 

From Major League Baseball on Monday…the St. Louis Cardinals lost their series opener at home with the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4 in 10 innings. The Cardinals now have a record of 36-30. Game 2 of the series is tonight at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs also lost an extra inning game in their series opener at the Philadelphia Phillies last night, 4-3 in 11 innings. The Cubs are now 40-26. Their series in Philadelphia continues this evening at 5:45 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds won their 4th-straight game as they took the series opener at the Cleveland Guardians, 7-4. The Reds are now over .500 at 34-33. Game 2 of that series is tonight at 5:40 PM.

 

The NBA Finals is still quiet tonight as the actions picks back up tomorrow evening at 7:30 PM with Game 3 in Indianapolis. The Pacers and Thunder are tied 1-1 in the best-of-seven championship series.
