Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball lost at Memorial, 6-4. The Vikings are now 17-8 on the season.

Mt. Vernon Softball lost at Tecumseh, 15-0 in 5 innings. Wildcats Softball has a record of 5-7.

Coming up this evening in local high school sports… Mt. Vernon Baseball hits the road to play Pike Central at 5:30 PM.

North Posey Softball is at South Spencer at 5:00 PM.

 

On Monday, the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings were announced, and the North Posey Vikings are ranked 9th in Class 2A. Other schools in Class 2A that are ranked include Mater Dei 2nd and Barr-Reeve 3rd. In Class 3A, Memorial is 6th and Jasper is 9th. Schools that are receiving votes are Castle, North, Princeton, Gibson Southern, Vincennes Lincoln, Northeast Dubois, and Vincennes Rivet.

 

The EVSC has made their selection for a new superintendent. At a special School Board Public Meeting, officials announced Dr. Darla Hoover as the new EVSC Superintendent. She is the first woman to ever hold the position. This appointment comes after Dr. David Smith retired earlier this year after 14 years as superintendent and more than four decades with the EVSC. School district officials say Hoover has also worked for the EVSC in various different positions, all within the past 24 years. Officials say her leadership has been pivotal in implementing academic programs. Hoover will officially begin her tenure as superintendent on July 1st.

 

USI Baseball begins play in the OVC Tournament tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles went 15-12 in the Ohio Valley Conference and earned the #5 seed. They will play #8 seed Little Rock tomorrow morning and the first day is single elimination.

 

From Major League Baseball on Monday…the St. Louis Cardinals returned home after a successful 9-game road trip in which they went 7-2 and beat the Detroit Tigers last night, 11-4. The Cardinals improve to 27-21 on the year. They continue their 3-game set at home with the Tigers tonight at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs allowed a pair of runs in the 9th inning and got walked off in Miami by the Marlins, 8-7. The Cubs fall to 28-20 on the season and their 3-game winning streak ended. Game 2 of that series is this evening at 5:40 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds had no problems in Pittsburgh last night as they won the series opener against the Pirates, 7-1. The Reds have won 4-straight to move to 25-25. Game 2 of the series is tonight at 5:40 PM.

 

Last Tuesday in the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in a best-of-seven series, 4-1. The Pacers will take on the New York Knicks in a best-of-seven series. For Indiana, it’s their second-straight trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. They have not been to the NBA Finals since 2000 and have never won an NBA title. The Pacers beat the Knicks in 7 games in the Semifinals last year. This is Indiana’s 5th trip to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000. The series begins tomorrow night in New York at 7:00 PM.
