Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Softball saw their season come to an end in the First Round of the Class 3A Sectional 32 at the University of Evansville as the Wildcats lost to Heritage Hills, 15-0 in 5 innings.
North Posey Softball is also in the Class 3A Sectional 32 and they will play tomorrow against Boonville at 4:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Baseball closed their regular season schedule with a 7-1 win at Evansville Christian yesterday. The Wildcats finished the regular season with an 8-14 record. They will begin postseason play tomorrow night in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at the University of Evansville. The Wildcats play Memorial in the first round at 5:00 PM.
North Posey Baseball went 18-9 during the regular season. The Vikings postseason starts tomorrow evening in the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Tell City. North Posey will play Pike Central at 5:30 PM.
Posey County Special Olympics will be hosting their annual Track and Field meet tomorrow night at the Mt. Vernon Football Field. Athlete pictures will be at 4:30 PM and the event starts at 5:00 PM. JB’s Ice Cream will be provided for athletes and volunteers with a ticket.
This summer’s “Feeding Our Future” program in Mt. Vernon begins today. The program will provide children under the age of 18 a free sack lunch Monday through Friday starting today and continuing through August 1st. No registration is required, no child under the age of 18 will be turned away, and lunch may be picked up at the following locations…424 Vine Street…816 East Third Street…and Southwind Apartments. The time frame to pick up a free sack lunch each day is from 11:30 AM-12:00 PM. Additional information is available on the Point Township Church of the Nazarene Facebook page.
Posey County Royalty Pageants says the deadline to register for the 2025 Princess, Duchess, Miss Teen Posey County, and Miss Posey County pageants is quickly approaching. You have until this Saturday, May 31st to register. If you have any questions, you can email pocoroyaltypageants@gmail.com.
North Posey High School says their Boys Basketball Youth Camp will be June 23rd-26th. K-2nd Grade will be from 8:00-9:00 AM…3rd-4th Grade from 9:00-10:00 AM…5th-6th Grade from 10:00-11:00 AM…and 7th-8th Grade from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Tonight, in the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers play Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Finals series against the New York Knicks in Indianapolis. Tipoff this evening is 7:00 PM. The Pacers lead the best-of-seven series, 2-1.
From Major League Baseball on Monday…the St. Louis Cardinals could not win their 4th-straight game as they lost the opening game of their 3-game series in Baltimore to the Orioles, 5-2. The Cardinals fall to 30-24 on the year. Game two of the series is tonight at 5:35 PM.
The Chicago Cubs took care of business at home in their series opener against the Colorado Rockies, 3-1. The Cubs move to 33-21 on the season. Their 3-game set continues this evening in Chicago at 7:05 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds picked up a 7-4 victory in Kansas City to begin their 3-game series with the Royals. The Reds improve to 27-28. They play the Royals again tonight at 6:40 PM.
