There was a deadly crash on Monday afternoon in Posey County. State Road 69 was closed for hours near I-64. Officials say around 2:50 PM on Monday, a SUV crossed the center line and hit a semi head on. Deputies say the SUV driver was killed. They say the semi flipped and caught fire. The driver was able to escape with minor injuries. A reconstructionist was called to the scene.

 

This Thursday morning at Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon there is a Mobile Food Distribution at 10:00 AM. The location is 618 Main Street. It’s in conjunction with Mt. Vernon City Hall and the Tri State Food Bank.

 

The University of Southern Indiana’s Ceramics Department is teaming up with a local nonprofit to help feed Evansville’s veterans. USI officials say the department will host “Filling Empty Bowls for Veterans” next month. With a $20 donation, visitors will receive a handmade USI ceramic bowl while supplies last along with soup and bread from the Mother Truckers food truck. The bowls are part of the Empty Bowls Evansville project, which raises money to fight hunger among undernourished veterans. Last year’s event brought in eight thousand dollars. This year, all proceeds will benefit the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program. Filling Empty Bowls for Veterans happens Saturday, November 15th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Barker Brewhouse in Evansville.

 

Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced Monday he will be signing a proclamation calling a special legislative session for the General Assembly to convene on Monday, November 3rd to consider altering the boundaries of Indiana’s congressional districts and to consider resolving an important issue regarding federal and state tax compliance that must be addressed. Officials say Indiana uses federal tax law as the starting point for the Indiana tax return, and the recent changes to federal tax law in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act include provisions that impact Indiana state tax filings. They say addressing this discrepancy through a special session will provide taxpayers, accountants and businesses the confidence and clarity ahead of filing season, avoid amended returns and filing delays and continue the Indiana Department of Revenue’s strong record of fiscal management.

 

The Evansville-Vanderburgh Airport Authority held a master plan open house Monday. They hold open houses like this every five to ten years to give Evansville residents a look at the airport’s plans for the future. Their current plans include airfield improvements, expanding terminals and increased parking. Officials say they plan to continue supporting corporate travel. They say their goal is for the airport to grow as the city grows and continues to meet its changing needs.

The North Posey show was supposed to be last night but got moved to this evening due to a conflict. Jordan Fisher is the host of the show, and you can listen on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. North Posey Football plays in the Second Round of the Class 2A Sectional 39 at Sullivan this Friday at 6:30 PM. Both teams are 7-3.

The final Mt. Vernon Football Coaches Show of the season is tonight at 5:30 PM on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Allen Buck is the host of the show. Mt. Vernon Football’s season ended last Friday in the First Round of the Class 3A Sectional 32. They lost at Southridge, and their year ended with a 6-4 record.

 

Last night in local college sports…Evansville Men’s Soccer won at Louisville, 3-1. The Purple Aces improve to 5-3-8 on the season.

This evening in local college sports…Evansville Women’s Basketball plays an exhibition game at home vs Roosevelt at 6:00 PM.

USI Volleyball plays at Tennessee Tech at 6:00 PM. The Screaming Eagles have won 4-straight matches. They are 11-11 and 7-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
