Firefighters responded to a house fire last night in Posey County. According to Posey County Dispatch, a call went out just before 8:00 PM last night to a home in the 5100 block of Upton Road, just northwest of Mt. Vernon. Several fire departments responded to the fire, including Black Township and Mt. Vernon City Fire. No injuries have been reported, and investigators are taking a closer look at what started the fire.
High school students interested in a future in healthcare have a chance to get a firsthand look at the field during an upcoming event in Evansville. Deaconess Health System is hosting a free program called “Jump Into Nursing” on Thursday, April 9th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The event will take place in the pavilion on the third floor of the Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital at the Deaconess Gateway campus. The event is designed to give students and their families an interactive introduction to careers in healthcare. Attendees can take part in hands-on learning stations featuring CPR and Stop the Bleed training, along with surgery and clinical skills demonstrations. In addition, students can get practical advice on preparing for a healthcare career, including resume building, career readiness tips, and information on college programs. Organizers say there will also be opportunities to learn about volunteering and job shadowing. Participants will also be able to take guided tours of the hospital, offering a behind-the-scenes look at daily operations and a chance to meet nurses and other healthcare professionals. Those interested in attending are encouraged to reserve a spot in advance.
Last night in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Baseball cruised past Evansville Christian at home, 11-0. The Wildcats improve to 2-0 overall.
North Posey Baseball started their season with an 11-1 win at South Knox. The Vikings play again this evening at home vs Reitz at 5:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Softball defeated Bosse at home, 24-0. Wildcats Softball is 3-0 on the year.
North Posey Softball lost at Henderson County, 10-0. Vikings Softball falls to 2-1 on the season.
In local college sports from Tuesday night, USI Baseball earned a 7-2 win at Middle Tennessee State. The Screaming Eagles are 18-11 on the year.
Evansville Baseball rallied for a 5-4 win in 11 innings at home vs the Indiana Hoosiers. UE trailed 4-1, entering the 7th inning but scored 3 runs in the 7th inning. They would eventually walk it off in the 11th inning, thanks to an RBI single with 2 outs from Freshman Tate Deal. The Purple Aces improve to 8-18 overall.
Tonight, in local college sports, Evansville Softball is home for a non-conference game vs Bellarmine at 5:00 PM. The Purple Aces are 14-17 on the season but have won 7 of their last 8 games.
From Major League Baseball on Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals shutout the New York Mets in St. Louis, 3-0. The Cardinals improve to 3-2 overall and they play the finale of their series vs the Mets this afternoon at 12:15 PM.
The Chicago Cubs were shutout at home by the Los Angeles Angels, 2-0. The loss drops the Cubs to 2-3 on the year. Their series with the Angels concludes today at 1:20 PM.
In Cincinnati, the Reds had their 3-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-3. The Reds are 3-2 and finish up their 3-game set against the Pirates at 11:40 AM.
The Chicago White Sox were tripped up by the Marlins in Miami, 9-2. The White Sox are 1-4 on the season. They wrap up their series in Miami at 12:10 PM.
This evening in the NBA, the Indiana Pacers start a 3-game road trip in Chicago vs the Bulls at 7:00 PM. The Pacers have 7 games remaining in the season and they are 17-58, which is the worst record in the NBA.
