News:

American Industrial Group is expanding its operations in Posey County, bringing new high-paying manufacturing jobs to the area. The company announced plans to invest about 1.25 million dollars in the expansion. American Industrial Group is the parent company of Material Management Technologies and American Processing Services. Company officials say the project will create 11 new full-time skilled manufacturing jobs by 2028, with an average hourly wage of 42 dollars. The expansion will also help retain the company’s current workforce of 30 full-time Indiana employees, who earn an average of 37 dollars an hour. American Industrial Group says the investment supports its mission to streamline operations and deliver high-impact industrial solutions through its subsidiaries. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is supporting the project with up to 175,000 dollars in incentive-based tax credits. Those credits are performance-based and will be rewarded once new employees are hired.

Posey County Commissioners have voted to extend a moratorium on renewable energy projects for another year. The pause applies to developments such as solar farms and wind turbines and was first put in place in March of last year. County officials say the extension is needed as other projects take priority. Commissioners are currently working on updates to the county’s comprehensive plan, including new zoning rules and ordinances. While existing laws already allow for solar energy development, officials say the updated plan is designed to allow room for future growth. Renewable energy projects in Posey County have faced opposition in recent years. One solar development in Marrs Township includes nearly 400,000 panels spread across about 1,500 acres large enough to power tens of thousands of homes at no cost to taxpayers. The renewable energy moratorium in Posey County is now expected to remain in effect through December of 2026.

Officials at the University of Southern Indiana say the school has received a 2.5 million dollar grant from Lilly Endowment Incorporated. According to a news release, the funding will support the creation of the Historic New Harmony Religious Liberty Initiative. The project is designed to explore and celebrate the role of freedom of belief both religious and secular in shaping visionary communities and inspiring new ways of living. University officials say this is the third grant Lilly Endowment has awarded to Historic New Harmony to help strengthen how the program shares the religious and spiritual history of the community with visitors. The new initiative will enhance the visitor experience through expanded educational programs, updated interpretive materials, and additional digital and on-site resources.
