Mount Vernon Police have arrested a man they believe is connected to a string of vehicle break-ins across Posey County. In a joint release Tuesday afternoon, the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Posey County Prosecutor’s Office announced that 26-year-old Rayvon Malik Robbins is now facing multiple charges. Robbins was initially taken into custody last week on an unrelated drug possession charge. During that investigation, police identified him as a person of interest in several thefts from unlocked vehicles reported in January. Investigators say cash and several firearms were among the items stolen. According to officials, cell phone data placed Robbins in the area at the time of the thefts. Officers also report he was found with a wallet that had been reported stolen from a vehicle weeks earlier. A search of his home allegedly uncovered clothing matching what was seen in surveillance footage from the incidents. Robbins now faces 28 criminal counts, including multiple charges of theft of a firearm, theft, and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. Prosecutors say if convicted on all charges, he could face more than 12 years in prison and up to 10,000 dollars in fines. Robbins is scheduled to appear in court today.

Firefighters put out a large barn fire in eastern Posey County that caused significant damage yesterday afternoon. Crews were dispatched around 1:00 PM to Hebmar Drive, just west of St. Phillips Road, after initial reports of a structure fire. Officials later confirmed the fire involved a barn, not a home as first reported. St. Phillips Road was shut down for several hours as emergency crews worked to contain the flames, prompting a large response. Fire officials say the lack of nearby hydrants made the effort more challenging, requiring crews to haul in water to battle the blaze. Family members say the barn has been in their family for years and belonged to the homeowner’s father. Inside were tools, a brand-new generator meant to help the family through the winter, and a lawn mower described as especially important due to mobility issues. They also confirmed that propane tanks were stored inside the barn at the time of the fire. Traffic was redirected at times around St. Phillips Road and Woodside Drive. Wadesville Fire led the response, with assistance from Posey County EMS and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
