The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced a road closure for State Road 66 in Posey County. Officials say beginning on or around Monday August 4th, crews will close State Road 66 near Parkers Settlement. This closure will occur between Juanita Drive in Blairsville and State Road 65. This closure will allow for multiple pipe replacement projects along the roadway. Work is anticipated to take a week to complete, depending on the weather. INDOT says the official detour for this project is State Road 65 to State Road 68 to State Road 165. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert in work zones.

 

With school starting next week, there are backpacks that are available for students in need. The Town of Poseyville has received a generous donation of backpacks from Family Matters of Posey County. If your child is still in need of school supplies, you can contact the Town Hall at 812-874-2211 (Option 1) to check availability. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

The Posey County Community Foundation says the 2025 Community Good Grants Program for Posey County organizations is still accepting applications. Community Good Grants are awarded to charitable partners addressing a wide range of local needs. Funding is available to support programs and projects that make a meaningful impact in Posey County communities. The deadline to apply is Monday, August 4th. This Friday through Sunday is the 35th Annual Keck-Gonnerman Antique Machinery and Car Show at the Posey County Fairgrounds. Admission is free and there will be food vendors, a flea market, and numerous activities and events. The 2025 features are Keck-Gonnerman Tractors, Steam Engines, and Separators. Posey County Soil and Water Conservation District says that on Thursday, August 7th there is a Well Water Workshop from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Posey County Fairgrounds. This will be a chance to hear from speakers to learn about why you should be concerned about your well water and how to keep you and your family safe. The workshop will be held in the Community Center at the Posey County Fairgrounds. 

 

In Major League Baseball from Tuesday…the St. Louis Cardinals lost game two of their series at home with the Miami Marlins, 5-0. The Cardinals dip to 55-54 on the year. Miami and St. Louis play the rubber game of the 3-game series tonight at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs fell in Milwaukee to the Brewers, 9-3. The Cubs are now 62-45 and have fallen to 2.0 games back of the Brewers for first place in the National League Central. Chicago looks to avoid the 3-game sweep this afternoon at 1:10 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds got beat at home by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-4. The Reds sit at 56-52 overall. Cincinnati will try to salvage a game in the 3-game series tonight at 6:10 PM.
