News:
Posey County deputies say a traffic stop led to a man being arrested Monday afternoon on drug and gun charges. According to deputies, they were patrolling State Road 62 in the Herman Island Road area when they saw a vehicle speeding east on State Road 62. While speaking with the driver, later identified as 46-year-old Damian Schile, deputies observed that he was very nervous and sweating. Deputies asked Schile for consent to search his vehicle, at which time Schile denied consent to search the vehicle. Posey County K-9 Basco was then called to perform a free air sniff around the vehicle. Deputies patted Schile down to check for weapons and a chewing tobacco can fell out of Schile’s pant leg. When the tobacco can struck the ground, the top came off and exposed a plastic bag containing approximately 14.3 grams of alleged methamphetamine. Schile was asked if there was anything else in the vehicle at which time he admitted he was possessing a handgun under the driver’s seat. Officials say he is considered a serious violent felon under Indiana law. Schile was placed under arrest and transported to the Posey County Jail and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 3 Felony) and Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony).
