Posey County has chosen a new commissioner. A caucus on Tuesday tonight selected Eric Koester to replace Bryan Schorr who resigned earlier this month. According to Posey County Republican Party Chair Greg Newman, Schorr’s resignation is effective on November 30th to focus on his health.
The Posey County Democrats and the Posey County Democratic women’s party will start meeting jointly on the third Thursday of each month. Their next meeting is tomorrow night at 6:00 PM. Meetings will be held at the Posey County Democrat headquarters, which is located at 217 West 3rd Street in Mt. Vernon. If you want to ask questions about the upcoming 2026 election and what offices are up this year in Posey County, they can be discussed at these monthly meetings.
Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is getting ready to celebrate 80 years of family fun in 2026 and they’re inviting fans to be part of the celebration. The park announced an art contest to help design next year’s souvenir cups. All entries must be original, with no copyrighted or third-party material. Submissions also can’t include signatures or any personal information, and artists under 18 will need a parent or guardian’s consent to enter. Winners will be notified by email on December 19th. Three artists will be selected, and each will receive two season passes for the 2026 season. The winning artwork may also be featured on Holiday World’s website, social media, and throughout the park.
Last night in local high school sports…North Posey Girls Basketball won at home vs Edwards County, Illinois, 47-26. Kyleigh Bender led the Lady Vikings with 12 points. North Posey improves to 2-1 on the season. They play Mt. Vernon at home on Friday.
Tonight, in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball has their scrimmage at home with Wood Memorial at 6:00 PM.
From local college sports on Tuesday evening…Evansville Men’s Basketball lost at home to UT-Arlington, 84-76. Connor Turnbull scored 20 points in the loss for UE. The Purple Aces have lost back-to-back games and now have a record of 2-3. Evansville plays on Friday in the U.S. Virgin Islands as they take on Oregon State.
Last night #12 Kentucky got beat by #17 Michigan State, 83-66. The game was played at Madison Square Garden in New York. Kentucky is 3-2 on the year.
This evening in Men’s College Basketball…#8 Illinois faces #11 Alabama at 8:00 PM at the United Center in Chicago. The Fighting Illini are 4-0.
In the NBA tonight …the Indiana Pacers look to put a stop to an 8-game losing streak as they are back at home to play the Charlotte Hornets at 6:00 PM. The Pacers are 1-13 overall.
