Coming up tomorrow at the Posey County Community Center at the fairgrounds is a basket bingo benefiting Gateway for Cancer Research. Doors will open at 5PM with bingo starting at 6:00. Organizers say that they have over 170 door prizes plus 14 large raffles. You can get your tickets before tomorrow by contacting the United Way office, or they are also available at the Cozy Cottage in Mount Vernon.

 

The Willow Tree of Posey County received a grant yesterday from the Posey County Community Foundation. They were awarded $1500 and say they money will be used to upgrade the security system for the Willow Tree. They say that the safety of their clients is incredibly important and it will help them make a wonderful upgrade to the Posey County safe house.  New life Rescue And Adoption also received grant money from the Posey County Community Foundation. Their grant was received to assist with their spaying and neutering efforts.


The Posey County Council on Aging is once again asking for the public's help to assemble Christmas bags for 60 senior citizens in the area. Items that they need help gathering include blankets, body washes, conditioner and deodorant, games, gloves, hats and house slippers, tooth brushes and toothpaste and other items. They have begun collecting donations and you can drop of any items that you would like to donate at 611 West 8th Street in Mount Vernon. The last day for donations will be December 12th.


As a reminder, CenterPoint Energy's series of community meetings will begin this week on Thursday at South Spencer High School. The local meetings will begin this Saturday in Evansville at Vanderburgh County 4H center. That meeting is set for 9AM til noon. The local Posey County meeting will be on Wednesday the 9th at Mount Vernon Junior High from 4PM until 7. Officials say customers will be able learn about financial assistance programs and resources as well as actions taken to prioritize customer affordability.


Evansville Men’s Basketball began their season last night at #1 Purdue and lost, 82-51. The Purple Aces were led by Joshua Hughes as he had 15 points and 11 rebounds. AJ Casey also added 14 points. For the Boilermakers, Fletcher Loyer poured in 30 points. Evansville plays their home opener on Friday with an Education Day Game vs Calumet at 11:00 AM. 

Tonight, USI Men’s Basketball starts their season up at Hinkle Fieldhouse vs Butler at 6:00 PM. 

Also tonight in college hoops, the Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Basketball team plays their season opener at home as they face Alabama A&M at 7:00 PM. 

In the NBA this evening, the Indiana Pacers conclude their 4-game home stand as they take on the Brooklyn Nets at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have a record of 1-6.
