Postseason play began last night for High School Volleyball teams throughout Indiana, and the North Posey Vikings won their first-round sectional match with Tell City. The Vikings won in straight sets, 25-9, 25-9, 25-9. They improve to 25-4 on the season. North Posey plays again on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in the semifinal’s vs Tecumseh. Tecumseh has a record of 24-8 overall. North Posey lost at home to Tecumseh in 4-sets during the regular season on September 25th. The championship match of that Class 2A Sectional 48 hosted at Tecumseh High School is Saturday night at 6:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Volleyball plays their first-round match Thursday night as the Wildcats are in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Heritage Hills. Mt. Vernon plays Heritage Hills tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM. The Wildcats went 9-17 during the regular season and the Patriots went 18-12. When the two teams played during the regular season on September 20th, Heritage Hills won in straight sets.
This Saturday Expressway Auto Mall of Mt. Vernon is having their First Annual Trunk or Treat. There will be dozens of local businesses and community organizations that will have decorated trunks and be handing out candy. There will also be games, prizes, a costume contest, and more. The event is from 2:00 PM-5:00 PM in the North Lot at Expressway Auto Mall of Mt. Vernon.
United Way of Posey County’s Pajamas All Day 5K Run/1 Mile Walk and Kid’s Dash is on Saturday, November 1st. You can sign up online at runsignup.com. You have just a couple more days to receive a t-shirt with your sign up as the deadline for that is this Friday, October 17th. It is 25 dollars per person for the 5K Run/1 Mile Walk and 5 dollars per kid for the Kid’s Dash. The race starts at The Cox Group at 8:00 AM on November 1st and the Kid’s Dash follows. Packet pick up and late registration is 7:00 AM on race day.
This Friday is the final week of the high school football regular season and on Monday the Indiana Football Coaches Association released their updated rankings. There are a few teams throughout the tri-state that are ranked. In Class 5A, North is ranked 12th. In Class 4A, Heritage Hills is 3rd. Class 3A has Memorial 1st and Gibson Southern 2nd.
North Posey Football plays at Mt. Vernon this Friday night to close the regular season at 7:00 PM. While the game is the battle of Posey County, it is also Community Night. Fans are asked to bring cans for the Food Drive that is being put on at the game. Items like canned soups, vegetables, fruit, baking ingredients, rice, and noodles are needed. All proceeds go towards the Mt. Vernon Riverbend Food Pantry.
Last night in local college sports…Evansville Volleyball beat Indiana State on the road in 4-sets. UE lost the first set but then won the next three sets…25-18, 25-17, and 25-23. The Purple Aces are now 6-13 and 2-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
College Basketball season is right around the corner and yesterday, the Ohio Valley Conference released the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll. USI Women’s Basketball was predicted to finish 4th. Lindenwood was selected as the preseason favorite. The Screaming Eagles start their regular season on Monday, November 3rd at home vs Franklin College.
USI Men’s Basketball was picked to finish 9th as Little Rock is the OVC favorite. The Screaming Eagles begin their regular season on Wednesday, November 5th at Butler.
