A heads up for Evansville westside drivers today. Traffic will be stopped in both directions near Rosenberger Avenue. Officials with the Lloyd4U project say the closure is due to the delivery of bridge beams to a work site just east of Rosenberger Avenue. Drivers are advised to watch for flaggers in the morning. Drivers should be prepared for stop times of 10 to 15 minutes. Authorities anticipate four stoppages over the span of two hours. 

 

Some more news for the west side of Evansville as a new gym is now open. Planet Fitness West is located on Rosenberger Avenue just off the Lloyd Expressway. It’s in the building where the old Office Depot used to be located. The gym is open and staffed 24/7. It’s the third Planet Fitness location in Evansville, joining one on First Avenue and South Green River Road.

This Friday is Week 7 of the High School Football regular season and on Monday the updated Indiana Football Coaches Association poll was released. There are several tri-state teams receiving recognition. In Class 5A, Castle is 9th…in Class 4A, Heritage Hills is 3rd, Reitz is 10th, and Jasper is 13th…Class 3A has Memorial 1st, Gibson Southern 2nd, and Mater Dei is 16th.

 

Today, the Boys High School Tennis Sectional gets underway at Mt. Vernon High School. This evening, there is just one match at 4:30 PM and that is North Posey vs Reitz. Then tomorrow there will be a pair of matches at 4:30 PM…Mt. Vernon taking on Central…and Mater Dei plays the winner of tonight’s North Posey vs Reitz match. The Sectional Championship match is on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM.

 

Last night in local high School sports…North Posey Volleyball beat Wood Memorial on the road to improve to 16-4 on the season.

North Posey Boys Soccer lost a close match at Forest Park, 2-1. The Vikings drop to 6-7-1 overall.

Mt. Vernon Volleyball got beat at Gibson Southern as they fall to 8-13 on the year.

Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer defeated North Posey at home, 4-0. The Wildcats run their record to 9-7 and the Vikings are 2-14.

 

Tonight, in local high school sports…North Posey Volleyball is home vs Boonville. The JV match begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer plays a home match with Washington at 5:30 PM.

 

From the Major League Baseball Playoffs yesterday…the Chicago Cubs won Game 1 of their best-of-3 Wild Card Series at home against the San Diego Padres, 3-1. The Cubs will try to close out the series with a win in Game 2 today at 2:08 PM and advance to the National League Division Series.

The Cincinnati Reds...lost Game 1 of their best-of-3 Wild Card Series at the Los Angeles Dodgers, 10-5. The Reds hope to avoid elimination tonight with a win in Game 2 of the series at 8:08 PM.
