Coming up this Saturday, there is a Habitat for Humanity Chili Cookoff at Trinity Evangelical Church in Mt. Vernon. It will take place from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at 505 Mulberry Street. It’s free to register, you must make at least 2 gallons, and you must bring your own table and supplies. To register for the cookoff, you can call Bill Thompson at 812-423-6523 ext. 227 or email bthompson@evansvillehabitat.org.

 

Burdette Park in Vanderburgh County is changing the way people camp in tents. According to Vanderburgh County Commissioners, the park is permanently closing 11 campsites on November 1st. Officials say the decision comes after ongoing safety concerns, high maintenance costs and reports of illegal activity. Officials say it’s too costly to keep the area safe and accessible for so few campers. Six tent camping sites will remain open, but only for dedicated use by girl and boy scouts.

 

Postseason play begins this Friday for teams across the state of Indiana with the first round of sectionals. On Monday, the final Indiana Football Coaches Association Poll was released, and several tri-state teams are still ranked. In Class 5A, North is 12th. Class 4A has Heritage Hills ranked 2nd. In Class 3A, Memorial is 1st, Gibson Southern 2nd, and Mater Dei is 15th.

 

The World Series is set in Major-League Baseball as it’s the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays squaring off in the Fall Classic. The Dodgers are looking to repeat as champs and the Blue Jays are playing in the World Series for the first time in 32 years. There is also a tri-state flare to this year’s World Series as Evansville native, Don Mattingly is the Bench Coach for the Blue Jays. Mattingly has spent 43 years in Major League Baseball. He was a player for 14 years, a manager for 12 seasons, and has spent 17 years as a coach. This is his first trip to the World Series. The best-of-seven series begins on Friday in Toronto.

 

The NBA regular season tipped off last night and tomorrow evening, the Indiana Pacers begin their season at home taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Pacers are coming off their second ever trip to the NBA Finals last year, as they lost in 7 games to the Thunder. Tomorrow night’s game begins at 6:30 PM in Indianapolis.
