September is a busy month in Posey County with several events coming up over the course of the next several weeks. Mt. Vernon River Days is Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th. New Harmony Kunstfest is Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st. Then, on the last full weekend of September (26th-28th) it’s the Kiwanis Poseyville Autumnfest. Last night here on Posey County Radio we had the Mt. Vernon and North Posey Football Coaches Shows. If you missed the shows live, you can listen to them archived on our website at poseycountyradio.com. Both the Wildcats and Vikings are 2-0 on the season. Mt. Vernon is home this Friday as they take on Gibson Southern and North Posey plays at North Knox.

 

Evansville Police are investigating the death of a 74-year-old woman as a homicide, after she was found passed away in her own home. Susan Haynie was found dead in her home on East Gum Street. Police say she was found in the basement of the home by a friend who had gone to check on her. While no one has been charged with Haynie's death, police say a "person of interest" is in custody, who is being investigated in connection with the homicide. The Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office said Haynie's autopsy was conducted on August 28th, but that the results are pending. According to her obituary, Haynie had a 28-year career in real estate, helping countless residents and families find their place to call home. It says she began her career at Hahn Realtors before joining F.C. Tucker Emge, where she had been serving clients in the Evansville area for the past 18 years.

 

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari announced new perks for 2026 Platinum Season Pass holders, including early entry to Splashin’ Safari in June and July. Early entry will be available daily from 10:15 AM to 11:00 a.m. and includes access to popular attractions like Mammoth and Cheetah Chase. In 2026, teachers will also receive discounts on Season Passes and Tickets, marking the first year this discount is offered. The park uses ID.me to verify eligible candidates. Additionally, the Free Pre-K Pass returns for children born between July 1st, 2020, and November 1st, 2022. These passes require online registration and a government-issued document for processing. Season Passes are currently at their lowest price until September 30th and can be purchased with monthly payments through the Easy Pay program until February 4th, 2026.

 

Last night in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Volleyball fell at home to Boonville in 4-sets. The Wildcats are now 2-4 on the season.

Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer defeated Boonville at home, 5-1. They improve to 4-3 on the year.

North Posey Volleyball beat Central at home to stay perfect on the season. The Vikings are now 6-0.

North Posey Boys Soccer lost a close match at home to Southridge, 2-1. Their record sits at 2-3.

North Posey Boys Tennis got beat for the first this year as they lost 5-0 at Gibson Southern. The Vikings have a record of 6-1 overall.

 

This evening in local high school sports…North Posey Volleyball has a home match vs Carmi. The JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is at 7:00 PM.

North Posey Boys Tennis welcomes Southridge at 4:30 PM.

Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer hits the road to play South Knox at 5:30 PM.

Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer stays at home to take on South Knox at 5:30 PM.

 

Tonight, in local college sports…Evansville Volleyball plays their first home match of the season as they take on Michigan State at 6:00 PM. The Purple Aces are 1-2 on the year.

 

From Major League Baseball on Tuesday…the St. Louis Cardinals won a pitchers’ duel in game two of their series at home vs the Athletics, 2-1. The Cardinals improve to 69-71. Each team has won a game in the series and the 3-game set concludes tonight in St. Louis at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs hung on for a 4-3 win at home over the Atlanta Braves. It’s the Cubs’ 80th win of the year as they improve to 80-59. Chicago goes for the 3-game sweep this evening at 6:40 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds lost a slugfest at home to the Toronto Blue Jays, 12-9. The Reds slide to 70-69. Cincinnati looks to avoid a 3-game sweep tonight at 5:40 PM.
