It is Monday and that means another edition of the Mount Vernon Market Nights. That is scheduled for 4:30 to 7:30 this evening on the riverfront. Live music, food trucks and vendors. Of course with a chance for rain and thunderstorms, plans might change. The Poseyville Farmers Market has big plans for tomorrow as this Friday is the 4thof July. Tomorrow will be the Star Spangles Celebration. Free activities include a water balloon toss, Pie Eating Contest and bomb pops. American Flags will also be available courtesy of the Posey County News. BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs will be available for purchase as well. The Poseyville Farmers Market takes place weekly on Tuesdays from 4 til 7 at the community center located at 60 North Church Street.
Well July is just a day away and coming up towards the end of the month, Family Matters of Posey County will be having their Back To School Backpack Giveaway. That is schedule for July 22nd at the Hedges Central Building in Mount Vernon. They ask that if you need assistance to schedule for you visit by filling out a form on the Family Matters Facebook page, or by calling the office at 838-6875.
Friday is the 4th of July and taking a look at this years fireworks schedules throughout the tri state, Henderson will get things started first with their fireworks taking place Thursday the 3rd at dusk. Evansville will follow on Friday the 4th. Activities for kids will be on the riverfront with food trucks as well. The Evansville fireworks will be set off at 9:15. Newburgh will be on Saturday the 5th with various activities throughout the day, and Mount Vernon will be on Sunday the 6th. Festivities here will include live music from Annabelle Whitledge on the stage from 7 til 9. There will be food and vendors on site from 5 until 9 and fireworks are to be set off around 9 o clock.
The Posey County Historical Society has announced the Adpot a fire hydrant for the USA Semiquincentennial. There are a total of 18 fire hydrants that can be adopted and they are asking for participants to paint them with a patriotic design. You must be 18 or older to participate, and the winner of the contest will receiver $250 as the grand prize. Deadline to finish your project will be September 1st. To get signed up, you can contact the Posey County Historical Society via email, or call Chuck Gray at the Mount Vernon Water Department at 838-2136. And we are two short weeks away from the start of the 166th Posey County Fair. There will be daily meals from 5 til 7 in the community and events center, two nights of professional rodeo on Monday and Tuesday, Mud volleyball and bike and ATV drag races on Wednesday, motocross barrel racing and car and truck drag races on Thursday, Derby car scrapper races and pro tractor pulls on Friday and Saturday conclude the fair with the demolition derby. Gate admission Monday through Friday will be $8 per person, Season passes are $40 and children 10 and under get in for free at 166th Posey County Fair.
