The Mount Vernon Wildcats earned their second straight win to start the 2025 campaign, defeating the Boonville Pioneers 42–22 Friday night at Bennett Field. The Wildcats set the tone early, jumping out to a commanding first-half lead and never looking back.

Mount Vernon struck first with 8:31 left in the opening quarter when quarterback Ryder Snodgrass hit Brady Schickel on a 24-yard skinny post. After the extra point from Mason Higginson, the Wildcats led 7–0. Snodgrass then added a 4-yard touchdown run late in the first to push the margin to 14–0.

In the second quarter, Snodgrass scored again on a 1-yard run behind a strong push from the offensive line to make it 21–0. Boonville finally answered with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Jackson McCain to Jordan Paul late in the half, but Mount Vernon responded in dramatic fashion. With just 11 seconds left before halftime, Nash Hostetter hauled in a tipped pass while falling backward in the end zone, giving the Wildcats a 28–7 cushion at the break.

Mount Vernon extended the lead to 35–7 in the third quarter when Snodgrass connected with Hostetter on a short pass that turned into a 67-yard touchdown after Hostetter broke free downfield. Boonville tried to rally, adding a 30-yard touchdown reception by Tyler Kleiner, but the Wildcats quickly answered. Running back Shane Krieger powered in from 11 yards out early in the fourth to make it 42–14.

Boonville scored a late safety off a bad snap and added one more rushing touchdown from Mason Jones in the final seconds, but the Wildcats’ early dominance ensured the game was never in doubt.
