Mount Vernon Wildcats Football VS Southridge in Sectionals 10-24-25

The Mount Vernon Wildcats wrapped up their 2025 football season Friday night at Raider Field, falling to Southridge 26–7 in sectional play. Mount Vernon opened the game strong, taking the opening kickoff and driving the length of the field for a 40-yard touchdown strike from Ryder Snodgrass to Luke Weintraut. Mason Higginson added the extra point to give the Wildcats a 7–0 lead midway through the first quarter, setting the tone for a hard-fought matchup.

The defense held firm throughout the first half, forcing key stops and limiting big plays. Southridge managed to tie the game at 7–7 early in the second quarter, but the Wildcats answered with steady drives and strong defensive pressure. A timely interception by Shane Krieger late in the half kept Mount Vernon in position, showcasing the team’s discipline and resilience that had been evident all season long.

In the second half, Southridge capitalized on a few explosive runs to pull ahead, but Mount Vernon’s defense continued to battle. Logan Clowers, Ryan Lilleston, and Grant Lippe led a determined effort in the trenches, blocking two extra points and forcing the Raiders to earn every yard. Even as the game slipped away late, the Wildcats continued to play with toughness and composure, embodying the grit that defined their season.

Offensively, Mount Vernon executed a balanced attack, running 70 plays for 337 total yards. Ryder Snodgrass finished 22-of-39 for 245 yards and a touchdown, while Shane Krieger added 55 rushing yards on 23 carries. Although the postseason ended sooner than hoped, the Wildcats concluded a winning campaign with a 6–4 record.
