Mount Vernon Wildcats Football VS Washington 10-10-25
The Mount Vernon Wildcats earned a strong 24–9 road victory over Washington on senior night at Hatchet Hollow. After a scoreless opening quarter, both defenses held firm before the Wildcats’ ground game began to find traction in the second. Running back Shane Krieger opened the scoring with a 20-yard touchdown run early in the period, and just over a minute later, broke loose again for a 28-yard score. With both extra points from Mason Higginson sailing through, Mount Vernon built a 14–0 lead. Washington finally answered with a 39-yard field goal by Carter Browning, but the Wildcats closed the half strong as Higginson connected on a 28-yard field goal just before halftime to make it 17–3.
The third quarter turned into a defensive slugfest, as both teams traded punts and field position with neither side finding the end zone. Mount Vernon’s defensive front, anchored by Levi Jones and Clyde Sharber, consistently disrupted Washington’s backfield rhythm, while the offense focused on time of possession and short gains from Saint Henderson and Paxton Boyd. The patience paid off early in the fourth when quarterback Ryder Snodgrass delivered a 20-yard touchdown strike to Nash Hostetter, pushing the lead to 24–3 after another Higginson PAT.
Washington managed one final score midway through the fourth, as Cooper Wright connected with Brody Issa for an eight-yard touchdown. The Hatchets’ two-point try failed, leaving the score 24–9, where it would remain. Statistically, Mount Vernon outgained Washington 286–221, fueled by Krieger’s 20 carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Snodgrass finished 13-of-24 passing for 163 yards and a touchdown, spreading the ball to Logan Clowers (37 yards), Brady Schickel (51 yards), and Hostetter (66 yards, one TD).
The victory marked a strong rebound for the Wildcats as several key players returned from injury. Mount Vernon’s ability to sustain drives and dominate time of possession in the second half proved decisive, helping them reclaim momentum heading into the final week of the regular season. With the annual Battle of Posey County up next, the Wildcats appear to be getting healthy and hot at the right time—just as the postseason approaches.
