North Posey Vikings Football VS Mount Vernon 10-17-25

The North Posey Vikings gave everything they had in this year’s Posey County Cup, but despite a determined effort on both sides of the ball, the Vikings came up short against the Mount Vernon Wildcats, 54–37. The rivalry matchup was fast-paced and physical from start to finish, with both offenses lighting up the scoreboard and combining for over 1,000 total yards of offense in front of a packed county crowd.

Leading the way for North Posey was Bret Buecher, who turned in a phenomenal performance with 29 carries for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Carter Schickel battled through heavy pressure all night, throwing for 198 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Camden Clowers from 32 and 9 yards out. Schickel also connected with Brody Fehn eight times for 136 yards and another score, while Remi Johnson and Buecher added short receptions to keep drives alive. The Vikings’ offensive line, anchored by Evan Becker and Lane Smith, opened lanes throughout the evening, allowing North Posey to consistently move the ball against Mount Vernon’s 4A defense.

Defensively, the Vikings showed grit, forcing a pair of turnovers to keep the game within reach, but the explosive Wildcat offense proved difficult to contain. Mount Vernon’s Ryder Snodgrass completed 14 of 16 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns, while Shane Krieger rushed for 253 yards and five scores. Despite the numbers, North Posey’s defense made key stops throughout the second half, with strong efforts from Drake Brown, Parker Wehmer, and Zeke Roosevelt to slow the Wildcats’ momentum when it mattered most.

The night took a concerning turn when Seth Gentil was carted off the field after suffering a back injury. Fortunately, word from his family afterward brought relief—Gentil was released from the hospital later that night and is expected to recover fully. Remi Johnson also briefly left the field but returned to finish the game, showcasing the Vikings’ trademark toughness. Players like Cade Mauck, Lane Young, and Connor Mayer continued to play through bumps and bruises, reflecting the heart and resilience of this team.

With the loss, North Posey concludes the regular season at 6–3, but there’s plenty to be optimistic about as they prepare for the sectional opener at home against Pike Central. The Vikings’ offense has proven it can produce points in bunches, and if the defense tightens up, they’ll be a dangerous opponent for anyone in Class 2A. Head coach Waylon Schenk has emphasized staying healthy and focused for the postseason, and with stars like Buecher and Schickel leading the way, North Posey has the tools to make a deep playoff push.
