North Posey VS Perry Central Sectional Game Recap 10-23-26

The North Posey Vikings opened the IHSAA Class 2A Sectional 40 football tournament in record-breaking fashion Friday night, rolling past the Perry Central Commodores 76-0 at Joe Gengelbach Field.

The Vikings established two new school records, scoring the most points in a single game with 76 and recording the largest margin of victory in program history, surpassing the previous mark of 71 points.

North Posey's offense was unstoppable, piling up 498 total yards, including 211 through the air and 287 on the ground. The Vikings scored on every possession except their final possession of the first half, when they took a knee to run out the clock.

Senior quarterback Carter Schickel turned in a perfect passing performance, completing all nine of his attempts for 211 yards and four touchdowns.

Junior Remi Johnson hauled in three receptions, including two touchdowns, while sophomore Camden Clowers added two catches for 96 yards and a score. Senior Cru Wilzbacher, who entered the game without a reception this season, broke through with three catches for 69 yards and his first touchdown of the year.

The Vikings were just as explosive on the ground, highlighted by a remarkable performance from freshman Carter Hertel. Hertel carried the ball just three times but finished with 150 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His scoring runs covered 46, 43, and 61 yards, and he was never tackled on an offensive play.

Senior Cade Mauck added 37 yards and two touchdowns on three carries, while sophomore Joey Hisch rushed four times for 59 yards and a score. Sophomore Cameron Fisher contributed 34 yards on eight carries, including his first rushing touchdown of the season.

In the kicking game, senior Ethan Ashby connected on all eight of his extra-point attempts, while junior Evan Becker converted two of three.

Defensively, North Posey shut down the Commodores' passing attack, holding Perry Central to negative two passing yards and just 127 total yards of offense. Johnson also recorded an interception on a trick-play pass attempt by Tyler Elmer.

Perry Central's ground game provided one of the few bright spots for the Commodores, with a senior running back finishing with 108 yards on 27 carries. Freshman quarterback Cruz Yeager completed three of nine passes as the Commodores struggled to move the football against the Vikings' defense.

The victory sends North Posey into the second round of sectional play for the first time since 2023, snapping a streak of two consecutive first-round exits.

Next up is a trip to Paoli, where the Vikings will face the Rams next Friday night with a spot in the Sectional 40 championship game on the line.

Paoli advanced with a 67-33 victory over Eastern Greene. The two programs have plenty of postseason history, with North Posey winning 55-31 at Paoli in 2022 before defeating the Rams 35-14 in the 2023 sectional championship game.

With a record-setting victory behind them, the Vikings will look to keep their postseason run alive next Friday night at Paoli.
