FINAL: North Posey 34 - Southridge 21

The North Posey Vikings opened the 2026 football season with a comeback road victory Friday night, rallying from an early two-touchdown deficit to defeat the Southridge Raiders 34-21 in Huntingburg.
Southridge came out quickly, scoring on its first two possessions to build a 14-0 lead while North Posey punted on each of its first two drives.
The Vikings' offense came alive with an eight-play, 50-yard drive capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Carter Schickel to Remi Johnson, cutting the deficit to 14-7.
A Southridge fumble late in the second quarter gave North Posey another opportunity. Starting at their own 45 with 1:09 remaining, the Vikings drove 55 yards in six plays. Schickel connected with Brody Fehn for 28 yards before finding him again for a 13-yard touchdown with just 11 seconds remaining, tying the game at 14 at halftime.
North Posey took control in the third quarter. Ethan Ashby connected on field goals from 45 and 29 yards to give the Vikings a 20-14 advantage.
The defense then came up with another big play when Johnson intercepted a Southridge pass, giving North Posey the ball at the Raiders' 38-yard line. Three plays later, Schickel turned a broken play into a six-yard touchdown run, extending the Vikings' lead to 27-14.
Southridge answered in the fourth quarter when Parker Steckler scored on a one-yard touchdown run, cutting the North Posey lead to 27-21 with 9:47 remaining. The score was set up by a 49-yard completion to Grayson Bolling.
The Raiders' momentum lasted only one play.
On North Posey's next offensive snap, Cade Mauck broke loose for a 66-yard touchdown run, pushing the Vikings' lead back to 34-21 with 9:23 remaining.
North Posey's defense took care of the rest. Johnson recorded his second interception of the night in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
Mauck led the Vikings on the ground with 138 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Schickel completed 19 of 24 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a rushing score.
Johnson delivered a big performance on both sides of the football. He caught nine passes for 66 yards and a touchdown while adding two interceptions and an unofficial 11 tackles defensively.
Brody Fehn led North Posey in receiving yardage with seven catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. Camden Clowers, Bret Buecher and Davin Sullivan each added a reception.
Ashby was perfect in the kicking game, converting all four extra points and both field-goal attempts.
North Posey finished with 312 yards of offense, including 179 passing and 133 rushing, while committing just four penalties for 25 yards.
Defensively, Johnson's unofficial 11 tackles led the Vikings, followed by Lane Young with 10 and Camden Clowers with eight. Brennon Reich also came up with a key second-half sack.
Southridge finished with 390 yards of total offense but was hurt by three turnovers.
Parker Steckler led the Raiders with 15 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Ring added nine carries for 52 yards and a touchdown, while Grayson Bolling rushed nine times for 40 yards. O'Mari Curry added 21 yards on four carries, Alex Hendrix had 11 yards on two attempts and Maverick Wright rushed twice for 11 yards.
Steckler completed 12 of 21 passes for 192 yards and was intercepted twice.
Sam Gasser led Southridge's receiving corps with seven catches for 86 yards. Bolling caught two passes for 78 yards, including the 49-yard reception that helped set up Southridge's fourth-quarter touchdown.
Cohen Cox led the Southridge defense with six unofficial tackles and several pass breakups in one-on-one coverage.
The Vikings start the season 1-0 and return home next Friday night to face the Tecumseh Braves in their home opener.
