Posey County officials just recently launched a new program designed to help protect some of the community’s most vulnerable residents. The Posey County Emergency Management Agency rolled out Project Lifesaver back on January 1st, partnering with the Posey County Sheriff’s Office and the Mount Vernon Police Department. The program is aimed at helping people with cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, and autism—conditions that can cause individuals to wander away from home or caregivers. Participants wear a bracelet on their wrist or ankle that contains a small transmitter with a unique frequency. If someone goes missing, emergency dispatch alerts trained search specialists who use Project Lifesaver tracking equipment to locate them quickly. Officials say the program is open to anyone diagnosed with a cognitive condition that increases the risk of wandering.

Big changes are ahead for drivers on the West Lloyd Expressway. Officials say crews have finished work on the north side of the roadway near Barker Avenue, marking the halfway point of the project. With that work complete, traffic will soon shift onto the newly built lanes so crews can begin working on the lanes currently in use. Final preparations are underway, and the switch is expected sometime this week, possibly as early as today, or early tomorrow. Drivers are being urged to slow down and stay alert, as it may take time to adjust to the new traffic pattern. This shift marks the second-to-last phase of the project. The final phase, expected to begin this summer, will add a center median and reconfigure the Lloyd and Red Bank intersection into a displaced left turn. Officials say the changes are designed to improve safety and traffic flow. The entire project is scheduled to wrap up by the end of 2026.
