The loss brings Mount Vernon's season to a close following a postseason run that included a convincing 49-6 opening-round victory over Corydon Central, marking the program's first sectional victory since 2015.

The Wildcats showed continued improvement throughout the season under head coach Higginson. With a full season in the program under his belt and another offseason ahead, Mount Vernon will look to build on that progress heading into 2027.

Mater Dei advances to face the Evansville Memorial Tigers in next Friday's sectional championship at the Reitz Bowl.
