North Posey VS Linton-Stockton Sectional Game Recap 11-06-26

The North Posey Vikings are sectional champions once again!

North Posey captured the IHSAA Class 2A Sectional 40 Championship Friday night with a 56-26 victory over Linton-Stockton, earning the program's sixth sectional title in school history and its first since 2023.

The Vikings held a 28-20 lead at halftime before putting the game out of reach with an explosive third quarter, scoring four touchdowns in approximately six minutes to build a 56-20 advantage and trigger the running clock.

Senior Cade Mauck delivered a remarkable performance, accounting for five touchdowns in three different ways. Mauck rushed 11 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns, returned punts 37 and 50 yards for scores, and added a 70-yard kickoff return touchdown.

The performance brought Mauck's season totals to six return touchdowns and 31 touchdowns overall. For the second consecutive week, a Mauck punt return touchdown triggered the running clock.

Senior quarterback Carter Schickel was equally impressive through the air, completing 24 of 30 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns.

Sophomore Camden Clowers led the Vikings' receiving corps with seven catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Clowers also contributed defensively with an interception.

North Posey also welcomed back two important offensive weapons. Senior Brody Fehn caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown in his return to the lineup, while junior Bret Buecher added five receptions for 79 yards.

Junior Remi Johnson turned in a strong all-around performance, catching seven passes for 65 yards while intercepting two passes in the third quarter.

The Vikings' defense played a major role in breaking the game open after halftime. North Posey forced three interceptions in the second half, including Johnson's two picks and one by Clowers. The takeaways helped fuel the decisive third-quarter scoring surge.

Linton-Stockton sophomore quarterback Espn Graves threw two touchdown passes, but the Vikings' second-half defensive pressure proved too much for the Miners to overcome.

The championship marks the second sectional title under North Posey head coach Waylon Schenk. The Vikings previously won the sectional championship in 2023, a season that ended with a trip to the Class 2A state championship game in Indianapolis.

Following Friday night's victory, the Vikings planned to celebrate with a firetruck ride down Main Street in Poseyville.

Up Next: Regional Championship at Brownstown Central

North Posey now advances to face undefeated Brownstown Central (12-0) on the road in the Class 2A Regional Championship next weekend.

The Braves are ranked either first or second in Class 2A, depending on the poll, and have one of the state's most formidable defenses, allowing approximately 3.9 points per game this season.

The regional matchup will present a major challenge for the Vikings, who will look to continue their postseason run against one of Indiana's top Class 2A programs.
