Coming up this Monday the American Red Cross is hosting a Blood Drive in Mt. Vernon. There continues to be a critical need for blood donations. If you can support and give blood, the drive is Monday at 1:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. It is located at 1717 Main Street in Mt. Vernon.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals Caravan is returning to Evansville this weekend. This wintertime tradition takes members of the St. Louis Cardinals organization to cities across the Midwest. Sunday’s event will be held at the CK Newsome Center at 6:00 PM. Current players Nolan Gorman, Matthew Liberatore and James Naile are scheduled to be in attendance, along with former Cardinals’ standouts Jason Motte and Kerry Robinson. Those who attend can get the latest scoop about the upcoming season, while children ages 15 and under can get an autograph from each current and former player.

 

The University of Southern Indiana announced a newly established partnership with Chengdu Sport University in China on Thursday. The partnership is for students who study sport economics and management at the University. This marks the first time that USI has offered an international program in the area of sport management. 93 students are currently enrolled in the program. The partnership celebrated a formal kickoff in April of 2022.

 

The IRS will start accepting 2022 federal income tax returns on January 23rd, the tax agency announced on Thursday. Of course, you don't have to file your return that early. The official due date for returns this year will be Tuesday, April 18th, the agency announced. That's because April 15th (the traditional due date) falls on a Saturday and Monday, April 17th is Emancipation Day which is an official holiday in the District of Columbia, where the IRS is headquartered. The majority of US tax filers every year are typically owed a refund. Last year, the average refund issued was $3,176.

 

High School Boys Basketball continues tonight for many teams in the tri-state area. There are several teams receiving recognition in the AP rankings. In Class 3A, North Daviess is ranked 3rd, Memorial 14th and Heritage Hills 17th. In Class 2A, South Spencer is 3rd. Class 1A has Loogootee 4th, Evansville Christian 6th, and Barr-Reeve is 9th.

- North Posey Boys Basketball (7-6) journeys to Tecumseh at 7:00 PM. 

- In Mens College Basketball tonight...#3 Purdue (15-1) is home against Nebraska at 6:00 PM. Butler (10-8) plays at home against Villanova at 6:00 PM. Illinois (11-5) welcomes Michigan State at 8:00 PM.

- The Indiana Pacers (23-19) are at home this evening as they battle the Atlanta Hawks at 6:00 PM.
