Former Posey County Correctional Officer Daniel Long was arrested last night by Indiana State Police around 8:00 PM. Twenty-six-year-old Long was arrested for Intimidation (Level 6 Felony) and Harassment (Class B Misdemeanor). Indiana State Police was contacted Thursday afternoon concerning Long sending threatening messages. An investigation revealed Long had allegedly made threats toward several individuals by the way of a text message. Long was arrested at his Evansville residence without incident and taken to the Posey County Jail where he is currently being held on bond. Long was arrested back on August 19th by Indiana State Police for allegedly battering an inmate in July while employed at the Posey County Sheriff’s Office. Long was terminated from his position after his arrest. This is an on-going investigation. 

 

As we head into the weekend, just a reminder to Posey County residents that Posey County is still under a Burn Ban. No open burning is permitted at this time.

 

Tonight in Mt. Vernon, Alexandrian Public Library is hosting a Halloween Party at 6:00 PM. Doors open at 5:50 PM. Registration is required to attend. To register, you can call the library at 812-838-3286 or visit the information desk at the library. Ralph Covert, the musician of Ralph’s World will perform at 6:00 PM in the Ohio/Wabash Room After the performance, there will be games, photos, refreshments, treat bags, a parade, and more.

 

Tomorrow, Harmonie State Park is hosting their Haunted Harmonie event. The events start at 10:00 AM with the Spooky Scavenger Hunt, followed by the Sasquatch Stomp at 1:00 PM, and there will be a Pumpkin Judging contest at 3:00 PM. Bring your carved, painted, or decorated pumpkins to the Outdoor Education Pavilion for judging at 3:00 PM. The Trick or Treat event will take place in the campground from 4:00-6:00 PM. Then, from 7:00-9:00 PM there will be Hayrides that cost 2 dollars for a ride. There is also a Campsite Decorating Contest. Judging for that will take place after dark and winners will be notified. Normal gate entrance fees apply for Haunted Harmonie at Harmonie State Park. It is 7 dollars for an in-state vehicle and 9 dollars for an out-of-state vehicle.

 

Tomorrow, USI Baseball is playing their West Side Nut Club #CureFA exhibition baseball game at Bosse Field against Kent State University. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at USI Athletics, or on-line at curefa.org/USIBaseball. The 2:00 PM exhibition game tomorrow will benefit the fight against Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), which is a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder that affects one in 50,000 people in the United States. The game previews the 2023 USI Screaming Eagles, who will be concluding their fall workouts.
 

High School Football postseason gets underway this evening with the first round of Sectionals. 5-4 Mt. Vernon will play host to 9-0 Owen Valley at 6:30 PM. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the radio broadcast on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.

7-2 North Posey is home tonight as well for their first-round sectional game against 1-8 Forest Park at 6:30 PM. Jordan Fisher will have you covered with the radio broadcast on 98.9 WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

Tomorrow in High School sports, it's the Volleyball Regionals. North Posey will play Brownstown Central at 12:30 PM on Saturday at Mitchell High School. The Vikings are 26-7 on the season, while Brownstown Central is 17-15. If North Posey wins that match, they will play again in the evening for the Regional Championship against either Houser or Linton-Stockton.

 

Local Sports Tonight:

- University of Evansville Volleyball plays at home against Drake at 6:00 PM. The Purple Aces are 8-15 on the year and 5-4 in the MVC.

- USI Volleyball travels to Little Rock for a 6:00 PM match. The Screaming Eagles are 1-19 overall and 1-8 in the OVC.

- The Indiana Pacers play their 2nd regular season game of the year tonight at home vs the San Antonio Spurs. Tipoff at 6:00 PM. The Pacers lost their season opener on Wednesday at home against the Washington Wizards.
