The Indiana Department of Transportation announced today that $127.6 million in federal transportation funding is being awarded to 38 cities, towns, and counties across Indiana. According to a release, the funding is to invest in local road and bridge improvements, as well as sidewalk and trail projects. Of those funds, $3,828,000.00 will be used in Posey County from E 10th Street to E. Grant Street along Mulberry Street. A release shows for this latest round of funding, local communities will design, develop, and purchase land for projects that would be bid for during the fiscal year beginning July 2027. While the funds awarded now are dedicated to construction, INDOT will financially participate in design, engineering, and right-of-way acquisition components for some projects.

Still a few weeks left to get those taxes finished. Just a reminder that the Posey County Council on Aging is offering free tax services through the Center for those that are 60 years and older with an income of $57,000 or less. This is being offered through April 7th. You can call or stop by the office to make your appointment. Posey County Council on Aging is located at 618 W. Eighth Street in Mt. Vernon.

 

Evansville residents in need of food support can attend a community food share on Monday evening. Feed Evansville organizers say the giveaway will be from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM tonight at Lorraine Park. The community food share is for this neighborhood and the surrounding areas. This will be on a first come first serve basis. Organizers ask participants to not form a car line. Instead, please park and walk up to the Feed Evansville Truck. 

 

CenterPoint Energy is encouraging customers who may be on the verge of disconnection to make payment arrangements. With the winter heating season coming to an end, CenterPoint Energy sent out a note in the middle of last week to remind customers that Indiana’s winter regulatory moratorium, which temporarily suspends disconnections of customers who meet low-income guidelines and have received federal and state utility heating assistance, is also expiring. Customers who have received a disconnect notice are urged to call CenterPoint to make payment arrangements and avoid possible disconnection.

 

Over the weekend, USI Men’s Basketball participated in the CBI Tournament down in Daytona Beach, Florida. This is a 16-team single elimination tournament and the Screaming Eagles lost their first game on Saturday. USI was the #15 seed and got beat by #2 seed San Jose State, 77-52. The Screaming Eagles finished their inaugural Division One season with a 16-17 record.

 

Sports: 

- The Indiana Pacers (32-39) play at the Charlotte Hornets at 6:00 PM.
